If the machine is locked up - then you may need Billy's "spa treatment" or a partial spa treatment . .

Just be sure and use sewing machine oil. Avoid 3 in 1 oil.

Thanks one of them is locked up, what is Billy's spa treatment, I will search for it later, time to make dinner now.

How bad does it look? Just because it is locked up doesn't mean you have to strip it down. Is it locked up from rust or from 3 in 1 oil? I trust you can tell the difference. Not every machine needs the total tear down and soak

Sorry I dont know the difference, it doesn't look like rust but I haven't gotten into it yet.

The rust is going to be a bit gritty. The 3-in-1 oil is going to be a bit gummy - prod it with a pin or needle to feel. The rust dissolves with some vinegar and the 3-in-1 oil takes kerosene or other solvent - check Muv's video

Cigarette smoke is oily, so use something that will cut through that oil--Murphy's is probably the best thing to start with. Be careful and don't leave water on the old cabinet, wipe it dry, since it's probably shellac and will get cloudy if water stained. Very nice save!

Well, it's late, but I just had to share. Finally got some pics of the White I was so excited about this weekend.

The only thing I can't get back on is the little thread cutter on the presser bar. The tiny little screw (no others left, pretty sure it's the one) just will just not get started in the hole.

What detailed decals! I like the little touches with the lock stitch borders and what looks like a tiny bobbin assembly in the bottom of the 'S' that makes up the center bed decal.

And...the after pics. Spent my Sunday on her. :) Had to really be gentle with the decals. I noticed a few places where the detailed shading was starting to come off, so had to lay off a bit.
