My grandmother has all of her attachments from her Singer 501A. Since she can't find a 501A machine she is considering buying a 401A. Does anyone know if those attachments will work on the 401A? They look like the same machine, but she doesn't know what the difference is.

I already have a replacement slide plate on the 66-1. I keep extras on hand just for that purpose. Eventually I'd like to find an original with the patent dates, but for now we're good to go.
I've done two quilt covers with two of my 66-4s, they do indeed sew very well. Last night after a good drink of Tri-Flow I threaded the old gal up and tried her out by turning the hand wheel by hand. Very nice stitches for a 99 year old machine.

I'm in the middle of two quilts, one for each of my Aunts, that I'm sewing with my mothers HOTHER. AFter that we're gonna make us one and I'll be trying my 66s out for sure.

There is a couple Singer machines that are lumped together under a model series. I believe the 6010 and 6020 is one of those and that the only difference is the number of built in stitches they have. But, don't quote me on that.

I stopped at a GoodWill about 35 minutes South of me yesterday and found a 501, but didn't buy it. No attachments, no cord, and it was jammed- probably with bobbin thread. They were asking about $20 for it and wouldn't budge. Looked like an interesting machine, but really heavy!

I did not know Singer made a 501. There is a Singer 500 and the attachments work with the 503, 401, 403, 404, 411, 600, 603 and other slant machines. Attachments, cords, etc can be gotten from sew-classic.

Monroe I don't know where your GW is but I would have bought that for the price if it was a Singer 500 or 401. Like I said I haven't seen a 501. I refurbish any slantomatics I can get like that or worse. They are a good machines, well worth the trouble. I do not do Touch 'n Sew.

I suspect it will find a home with Jen C's grandmother soon. $$ too tight for me to buy any more machines.

I just checked and it is almost five hours each way. Haha. I love my grandmother, but that is a long trip.

I saw that CL posting the next morning after she posted it and sent an email. I never received an answer so I sent another email today. I told her the ad was still up if the machine was available, she told me it was sold. Why not take the ad down?
I did receive a reply to a Singer 101 in a cabinet, the cabinet looks in pretty good shape, $25 The machine does not work. It is funny cause the seller asked me why do what this old machine you know you can get a new machine for about $50
The cabinet is a Singer 40a, I believe.
