Drag out that 301 and start using it!! You will love how it sews. Very straight even stitches. And they are so easy to maintain. So many good things to say about the 301. I love mine, and I sew on it about 75% of the time.

Thanks for the link!! Great info, but I am frowning, because I thought my 301a was made in 1951, my birth year, and I now think it was in 1953 or 54. :-(

I have a 301A in the Mocha. She sews beautifully now that she is cleaned and oiled. I think she had 50 year old lint, grease and oil in her. I am not sure where she was stored but it wasn't climate controled. The bobbins and the bobbin case are what have obvious rust on them. I have been working to clean that off but once I got the surface of the bobbin case cleaned it really hasn't mattered.

I love how it sews. I bought it to take to my first ever retreat and have been sewing blocks on her this week for practice.

Now, I really want a black one and LBOW.....Husband says, "Go for it." Of course, that man has the same model antique tractor with two different front ends on it. He understands the need!

I have light beige and oyster white and my Daughter has mocha...we luv them....have used every attachment at one time or another in the last 54 years...they all work wonderfully.... slant needle was a truly great idea.
a couple of hundred years ago there was a sewing machine that ran off two spools of thread instead of the bobbin and i wish that was available, especially in long arm quilting machines....with computers tension should not be an issue

Smiles, the Two Spools are still around - antique or vintage, of course. The vintage board has several members who own and use them. I still like my 301 for quilting!

FYI, there is a 301 for sale on the SewItsForSale yahoo group. Very reasonable. I can't link it to this pm because you need to be a member to buy and sell. It was just posted today. Hope this helps someone!!

I am so happy to find this thread! I have a FW and a 301 and I could use some tuning info. I have also been looking high and low for a table or cabinet for my 301, any hints on where to locate one? Thanks!

Hi hobbykat, how do you like your 301 in a fidget table? I have been searching for a cabinet for my 301 but was looking at the fidget as well. Is yours the original or the Gidget 2. Thanks!
