Holli,

Thank you for that piece of information. I found that they were called "knit pickers" and are still available to this day!

How wonderful! I have my grandmother's Singer treadle machine in an oak case. It's in the living room and people think it's a liquor cabinet I love having it but have never used it. My mother used it back in the 60's to make saddle pads for me and it worked great then. It's in very good shape because my grandmother did most of her sewing and all of her quilting by hand. My mother said the only sewing she remembered her doing on it was hemming pillowcases and sheets. All the gold paint is still in place. I'm so glad you got that one. Treasure it!

What a beautiful machine....and since it is in the family, even better. I'm curious about those tools, too.

Beautiful. What a thoughtful aunt, who made sure you got it and knew you would treasure it.

The tool on the left is a screwdriver/wrench combo and Holli posted a few post above that the other one was a tool used in the garment industry back in the days of knit clothing and was used to repair a garment. It's called a "knit picker" and are still available today. It has a tiny latch hook that you push through the garment to repair it otherwise there would be a hole and the garment would be worthless( I think? ).

Good going Rodney! I’m happy for you.

I have my Maternal Grandmother’s 1906 White VSIII Treadle that she received (used) as a wedding gift in 1928 and sewed on it until she bought a new Singer 404 in 1959. She sewed for a long time on that old second-hand treadle machine!
