Thanks, Rodney(s), for being so marvelous in spearheading this thoughtful project!
I just made my square - my first ever! So it may not be 100% square. Plus, I am in Canada, so it might be Metric Inches. It took me an hour and 45 minutes - YIKES!! Hate to imagine how long a whole entire quilt would take!
This was quite fun! I used my Featherweight (and you know, I -really- do understand why quilting folks would want to use a FW - they are just the thing for piecing!) Then with my Grasshopper (yay for the low gear/slow speed attachment!!!) I embroidered the heart into the centre panel, rather than my name/initials. The heart is a bit wonky, and I -hate- to imagine how wonky my whole entire signature would have turned out! LOL.
The spirit of sewing e-friendships lives on in this 9-piece; the rust-autumn squares are from a fabric that was in a trade-package from another sewing e-friend, and the white centre panel (which is linen) needed a backing for the embroidery; the backing I used came out of another trade-package of loot from another sewing e-friend.
I am attaching a photo of my 9-piece square, and also a photo of a nifty row of magnets which I put on my FW in order to make a nice 1/4 inch seam guide.
I will be in the USA next week on bid-ness, so I will mail it from there, on Monday. Much quicker than the cross-border turtles.
Thanks for the fun intrusion on what is an otherwise -very- harried week for me. It was very nice to take time out and just cut and sew.
Warm fuzzy feelings all 'round

Here's my contribution. I used my "dump machine" the Singer 503A I rescued from the salvage shop. The fabrics I picked up at yard sales looking for machines this Summer and the center piece was in a scrap bag I got for free when I adopted someone else's UFO's.
So now all the things combined came from several different crafters' homes and combined to go into this project that will again combine materials and talents from near and far, all sharing what they have for this lovely gift. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.

Ashlea will love all of those including all the love behind those quilt blocks. Don't worry about color. She will love it no matter what. I should dig out a machine and some fabric and make a block, too. My sister says she is going to make a block, too.
