Newer Bernina machines have a "heel tap" feature that enables the sewer to move the needle up or down and this requires the higher part of the pedal to be forward, by the toes. I have never had the pedal move when sewing on carpet, however.

My cabinet machines both use knee controllers. Yobrosew thanks for the pics and tutorial on the standard foot controllers. I would have used them backwards too, they look like they should work the other way.

Yobrosew, you are sew right. The one I'm referring to is the black electronic one, but, works the same. If operated as you show, the foot comes off the pedal eliminating some run on I get with a heavy foot. Thanks so much. And, I see if the pedal is placed correctly in relation to angle of leg anticipated fatigue may not occur.

CORRECTED DIAGRAM of using a foot pedal as designed. If anyone can delete the first; great!! One of the improper pics was used in the proper use section! (Guess the bright socks made me dizzy. lol)

Tubs full of fabric under the cabinet helps keep the control from getting away.

I just use the non-skid shelving. Put the controller on that and doesn't move til I move it.

I use my sewing machines that are in cases as "backstops" for foot controllers.

We use a piece of carpet, the 'sample' small sizes that are sold for a dollar under our machine pedals on our tile floor. They seem to 'grip' the pedal and hold it in place. Works for us.
