My daughter had this in her basement from a garage sale we had maybe 10 yrs ago. I have registration card for it (but forgot to take pic at time) which says it was sold to a lady in Decorah, IA, in 1952, but I think it's actually older than that. I've read all the information I can find online about the Domestic Sewing Machine Co. and find nothing. There are no dates on the manual or machine or parts anywhere.
So, any information someone can help with would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mizeddie, Welcome aboard. YOu know from your manual that you have a long shuttle machine. And you are blessed with 8 bobbins. That is a score. They should go in a bullet shaped shuttle that fits into an arm that swings back and forth under the bed. You are missing the slide closest to you from the needle, but the shuttle Hopefully will still be in place there. We often call these vibrating suttles or VS machines here.

Examine that wiring very carefully before you plug it in.

Thanks for the welcome and the info! Yes, it does have the shuttle. From what I have been able to do by hand, all moving parts work, but with the belt being stretched and cracked, I can't test the bobbin winder. I also do have the 'table' the machine sits in, and the case. No needles either; and I don't want to try one of mine and break the machine.

your machine was made by White after they acquired the Domestic name. At the time they had a contract with Sears and Sears wanted a machine that was similar to Singer - White obligated and also sold the model seperatly. So this machine is more like a Singer than other machines White made.

I have the same machine, but has WHITE on the emblem.

Is there a way to tell if it's a White? Or, did they not tag them as White? And, can you tell me what it might be worth, in its present condition? And, possibly where to find parts and needles.

i usually test my machines by sewing with me powering the hand wheel and my GF at the needle. Worth is all over the board, location and condition are part of it, but I swear some folks use chicken entrails to determine an
asking price.
I don't know what needle it takes, but except for the slide I don't see anything missing or broken.

I would tend to believe 1952. crinkle finish and it looks like friction wheel drive

normally one like this will take "singer" size supplies - makes it a lot easier to get since they are still making them new. You may find that a Singer slide plate will fit also.

Your Domestic 6 appears the same as a White #8:

My 1st White Sewing Machine

White bought up Domestic & King in the mid 1920's. As mentioned earlier Singer shuttle, bobbins, 15x1 needles, and front slide should work.

Thanks for the info Jon. I'll look into Jack's place for parts. I've taken the cords off the motor to be replaced. But, it all may have to wait for a couple weeks while we mourn our cat.
