Default "Excuse Me!" ...............

.................... or "Thread Follies".

My wife was sewing some handles for her shopping bags she's making yesterday on her Bernina 930 using burgundy Coats & Clark's machine quilting thread when I hear her exclaim: "Excuse Me!". I came over to see what was up and she showed me this:

Right in the middle of the spool of thread was a splice. I got a laugh out of it, but my wife didn't appreciate it. She had to re-thread the machine and then restart. She was .... um annoyed.

That is most frustrating! Luckily I haven't seen it either, but not totally surprised by it. Is she going to write to the manufacturer?

I'm not surprise, actually. Coats and Clark has gone waaaaay down in quality and reputation over the years:< I won't use it.

The last time I sewed with Coats and Clark on my '70s Bernina Record 830, it made a mess. In other words, my vintage Bernina did not like it at all! I won't buy it anymore. Mine was purchased at JoAnn's and it said made in Mexico.

wow...that is crazy...I have heard that C&C and the connecting threads thread is really bad about splicing, but have not seen it before!

Coats & Clark IS "cheap cheap thread" now. Unfortunately, their quality has diminished from what it was years ago.

And, I've seen splices in it before. Will never buy it again. I now use the many spools I have left for basting quilt sandwiches, and zig-zagging raw edges of new fabric when I'm preparing to wash it.

Had it happen to me also. I've also seen fabric sewn together in the middle of the bolt.
