The cases are a piece of junk. I guess you'd have to have an original if you were concerned about the value, but they were covered with a grass cloth like substance and I think vinyl instead of leather around the edges. They didn't hold up well at all.

You can get them on ebay all the time for less than $100.

If you get that 301 you will love it. Very powerful and sew a lot of stitches per minute. Great machine for FMQ.

The one I just purchased came with a cabinet but it is a great portable machine also. :-D

THis is a 301 A slant shank. Often refered to as the big sister of the 221. It is a great machine with better clearance then the 221. As well as better visibility of the needle becasue of the slanted shank. The bobin case and the bobbin are the same as the 221. The weight is 16 lb. as compared to the 11 pounds of the 221 The 221 weight however is just the machine with the carrying case it adds enough to weighas much as the 301. If you need a manual go to International sewing machine collectors society- for free. The motor is .53 amps as compared to the 221 .4 amp motor. Most likely this was made in Anderson South Carolina which you can verify from the Singer web site under serial numbers 301 is a very nice machine with great control- especially if you are doing more then zipping through a straight seam. I create original works for demonstrating the capabilities of the vintage machines we work with and have found the 301 easier to work through turns with then the 221 because I am able to get a better view directly over the needle rather then look around a tension knob.

It's a 301a and I just bought one for $60.00, but $100.00 might not be a bad price if you really want the machine

I know someone will have the answer for me.. Thanks

Looks like a 301-A and this is the "big sister" to the featherweight. It is a good machine too and the feeddogs lower for free motion quilting.
