Help with my Featherweight
This morning I decided to clean and oil my featherweight. I removed the throat plate to check for lint. Put the throat plate back on. Now my bobbin tension isn't working! the bobbin thread is getting picked up but it's not sewing properly. I've rethreaded both the bobbin and top many times. I've replaced the needle...still not sewing right. What did I do wrong? It was sewing like a top before I started??

Here are the instructions in the manual for replacing the throat plate:

Also make sure the bobbin thread is coming off the bobbin the correct direction. Some machines are very picky about the orientation of the threads. This also goes for the thread going through the needle. It doesn't look like it should make a difference but it really does.

I had the same thing happen the first time I took off the throat plate. I thought I'd ruined my machine. But, I just wasn't aware that the position finger had to be matched up in the notch. My machines do like the threading to be perfect, too. ..... bobbin thread counter-clockwise in the case and the needle threaded from inside to outside (right to left). Good luck with your machine and ask questions whenever you have a problem. Someone always comes to your aide.

Thank you thank you thank you. Here is what I've learnt. Never remove the throat plate and the bobbin at the same time. Well you can but it's not a good idea. Using my computer to enlarge the picture it made sense. I did have to remove the throat plate and position the quilting form mechanism, and put the throat plate back on. So many thanks and especially to Judythesewer for the picture This board is the best!!!
