It was strongly recommended to me (by another collector who has one like yours) that you join the following site and A)share your machine, and B) get some amazing info including DETAILED instructions for head disassembly/reassembly

Thanks, Steve. I sent in a request to join. Hopefully, they will let me in.

I haven't been able to do much this week on cleaning up EVE. I hope I can get some of the things on my to do list finished so I can work on it this weekend. We will see. The list is way too long at the moment.

Well, I have about an hour that I can work on the machine before I go do a couple of errands. So, another question.

I am taking the tension assembly apart to clean it up. The wavy discs appear to be one piece. I don't know if that is accurate or perhaps the rust has it fused together. Can you guys answer this question for me? I don't want to force them apart and then find out that they are one piece.

Thanks.

Thank you, Jon. That will be a little tricky to clean up but I'll do it.

The washers appear to be made of leather. Is that accurate? And at the moment they are soaked with oil and blaster. Any suggestions on what to do with that? I am sure they need to be oiled when I put it back together. I was thinking I would just wipe off all the gunk and re-oil them. Tell me if that would be the correct thing to do.

toothbrush or brass brush like a toothbrush.... put a pencil through the hole (wood will not damage the brass) and scrub away...

I've had felt circular pads between the tension spring and tension disc. I just figured they were for protective padding so the spring doesn't dig into the soft disc. I've never oiled these pads.

they are oil pads. Think of it like the little red felt bit in a drop in bobbin case...

Here's some background history on the early Davis SM Co. with a couple years for hindsight (1876).
