Default Jones CS hand crank not picking up bobbin thread

My Jones CS hand crank is periodically not picking up the bobbin thread. It will sew along fine, and then skip a stitch on the bobbin, leaving a little loop of thread on the back. Then it will sew along again just fine. I'm wondering if it just needs a new needle? I haven't sewn that much with this needle. Any suggestions? I would include a picture, but it was black thread on navy fabric, and it really would not show up.

New needle and all new thread would be a good start assuming the bobbin is wound and in correctly etc
I'm wondering if there is some slight timing issue. Worn shuttle? Needle correct? I got lucky to clean up and use a Jones a couple years ago. Neat machine. Seems like a different bobbin/shuttle.

Sounds like something basic. I believe Jones CS use a 128x1 or 16x1 needle. Both are round shank so they need to be aligned.

That would do it.

Jon may have the answer. I would align the side with the long groove to the left and make sure the needle is set all the up in the clamp. All 128X1 are not the same length so if still skipping stitches lower the needle just a hair and I mean just a hair at a time until it sews a fine stitch. I have never had a problem with my Jones CS as long as I set the needle correctly.

Thanks every one. I'll try a new needle and the adjustment and see if it works. This is a new issue, so I'll pray this is the answer. I'll key you know.

Well, I used a new needle. It still skipped a few stitches, but after adjusting the tension slightly everything seems to be working great again. Thanks for all your help.... Now... If I could just get my Pfaff unstuck. Will keep you informed!
