Ok, after searching many pictures ( I wanted to be extra sure) I think I have a match for the balance wheel! I found a drawing a a Minnesota A in a sample manual with just a few pages. On the cover it says Franklin Minnestota Sewing Machine Model A.

Looks like mystery solved. Here's another potential "problem" for someone:

Wrong fit for Davis Minnesota "A".

From needlebar - it looks like that Minnesota was made by Domestic for Sears, and possibly after White took over. Franklin was the brand name Domestic put on the machines made for Sears.

Got to thinking - so that is probably how White ended up making Sears machines, they took over Domestic. Wonder if White got Domestic first, or the Sears contract . . .

If someone has the Franklin/Minnesota, does it take the same size shuttle as the Singer?

Here's an article on King which mentions White buying Domestic and King, both of Buffalo, NY.

Really cool link! Funny that my oldest machine and my newest machines were made for Sears, but by differnt companies. The oldest is the Minnesota A made by Davis, the 2 newest Kenmores were made by Janome.
How many companies made machines for Sears anyways?

Ok, after even more research, can someone double check this. I know the extra shuttle I have fits my machine.
According to this Boyle Shuttle/Needle Chart, it also fits the C, D, F and S.

Here's another chart to try:

I was a little confused by the other.

Lots of wrong Davis information out there and the above is one instance. The Davis shuttle (long) will fit Davis Min A, B,C,K, & S. Minnesota B,C,K (supposedly) &S are only made by Davis. Minnesota D and F are both 3/4 sized and take the short Davis shuttle which is not available from Boye. I suppose the customer had to order from Sears. Davis short shuttles are tough to come by.
