Thanks for the compliments on the cabinet Ladies.. it's starting to grow on me, but I still would prefer a wood cabinet... LOL Old habits die hard and all that...

Buslady, I have been over in the Vintage Machine Photo shop just oogling all the photos; and, I was wondering - did you paint that pink fiddlebase yourself or did you have it done? It really looks nice!

Many thanks to everyone about my Singer 12 restoration. Bojangles, it is a Singer 12 "Family" sewing machine. I couldn't see any decoration left on mine except a faint gold line on the belt guard. She had been sitting under a lean to shed for at least 10 years and the Texas weather had finished doing her in. Originally there was a fold down table extension on the left side and a couple of drawers. Both were long gone except for one piece of wood that was part of the side of the drawer assembly.

Charlee, that is great! The little quilt squares on the sides are so detailed, down to the stitching lines. :)

Nancy, it was on a charity quilt. People are amazed I choose to put so many hours in charity quilts as so many whip them up zip, zip, zip. But, I do a lot of strip quilts and quilt them all on my 301's usually, so I don't put all those stitches on my Bernina. I usually do meandering or loops on the charity quilts and got through probably 6 bobbins of thread, just in the quilting...so lots of hours and stitching involved. I have posted photos of the strip quilts I do, but I don't take pictures of all of them as I do at least one a month....

Thank you, that's very kind. I've been putting out like 2 a month if you count the rag quilts I do. I have a Studio cutter, so zip, zip they're cut out. I started the string quilts to use my own scraps and it became somewhat of an avalanche. Now, there are probably 10 or 12 women in my local guild that hand off their scraps to me. They enjoy seeing some of their fabric in the quilts and play "I spy with my eye, my fabric:>". One nice lady is also bringing me her church scraps, so I'm on scrap overload. It's somewhat of a brainless activity for me at this point as I've made so many, but I'll keep at it. Our guild donates to several groups, one being Chicks in Crisis, Shriners and there's a low income, mental health for kids agency (name escapes me) that we donate to. Our guild does make "kits" for people to make up donation quilts, but honestly, they're not very attractive. So, I prefer the scrap quilts. I do try to buy the best fabric possible for the backings etc. but do frequent yard sales etc. to do so. I have to buy the batting and backing for all the quilts I donate so it adds up. This is why I just love using my vintage machines(and collecting them). They handle all the wear and tear I put on them for these quilts and just keep chugging along! |
