Thanks for the pics, Monica. I love the fact that you can switch to a straight stitch and then zigzag with no plates to lose or get separated from the machine. Are the Necchis the only machines that have this capability? Not all Necchis after this one have this feature, so I wonder why they stopped incorporating it into the later model design. I think it's so cool.

Candace, I have no idea if the Necchis are the only ones. I do know that when the Necchi Supernova came out in the 1950s, it was the only machine at the time that had the feature of automatic embroidery.

vintagmotif,

That is a super neat machine. Joey likey!
I noticed a trap door on top. Does it use cams? If so could you post a pic of one. We have a set we have been trying to identify.

Luckly, all these vintage machines can tackle sewing through layers of denim without any troubles. So, sewing seams and hems are a breeze!

Monica and Janice, I have made my own jeans too, but I don't enjoy making them! I would much rather buy a nice fitting pair of jeans and embellish them. Taking the flat felt seams apart is not a big deal. You only have to take one seam apart - lay the leg out flat to embroider it, then sew the seam back together in a new flat felt! Nothing to it! I did that a few years ago to some wranglers I had. Embroidered red roses down one leg, then I wore them to a Broadway Show in Reno. I heard several women talking about my jeans and how expensive they were in Nordstroms! I just chuckled to myself!
