I have done a Very Foolish Thing, and bought a new/old house. Now I have to Do Something About all this mess I've been creating for the past 30 years. Miriam, I do know the drill! Yes, I tried everything I could think of short of removing the tension and the bobbin assembly/hook race. I tried several different needles in case one was bent - even went between universal and sharps - tried re-threading both bobbin and thread path, tried changing bobbins, changing bobbin cases, played and played with both tensions - upper and lower. It just seems like there is a hickup in the system. I can actually see when it will skip as the thread has extra play like it is going to skip; and, I can actually hear it. As you know, I have 5 FW's so I know how to care for them properly, but this one - I am now almost convinced has a timing issue, which is Cathy's thing not mine! I fixed the timing on my 319w, but I won't attempt that with someone else's machine.
Cathy what do you say about the skipped stitches? Is there a place the FW's thread can catch once in a while like the position finger on the 319w? I have seen you spread things apart in weird ways at times when you are fixing a thread catch problem! Nancy |

You have checked most everything. Did you check the spacing of the needle to the hook tip as Candace suggested. Are the two screw on the hook assembly tight enough to keep the hook assembly from rocking back and forth? Have you changed out the thread spool? A bad spool of thread with dirt or oil on it can cause drag on the thread then a sudden release of the thread. Thread can catch on the rim of the spool just enough to cause problems, but not enough to grab and break the thread. Do you have a spool pin felt on the pin? If it needs a timing tweak, I will be happy to do that. Call me, I will be available around all weekend (packing and starting my move). However, I won't be available from 4:00 to 7:00 tonight as I have to take a live web class (license renewal time again :( ). Cathy

It's a bit of a drive for me, that I have done before for a free cabinet. I once drove over there for a free cabinet in excellent condition to go with my free treadle irons that my $30 Singer 201 now resides. It's a nice drive over there on a pretty day like today.:) |

Charlee, I think to you rescue me today with the posting of that person's blog on vintage Singers: http://oldsingersewingmachineblog.com/. Instead of a drive to go after that free White (which I have NO place for in my home), I'll read this amusing blog. These folks are into brewing their own nettle beer. :) I can hear this dude's accent as I read his blog. I love it!! A very nicely done blog!!!
