That is a great price and they are both lovely machines! I never find good deals like that :(. Oh wait, I did find an older (1960's) Singer at GW for $7...not bad but I gave it to a friend. I also had an older New Home (1950's) pd $9 at GW but gave it to another friend. Gave another old Kenmore ($9 @ GW, 1960's) to friend of DD, but kept one for myself :). Now, if I could have any of them back I would have to go for the New Home.

Honchey is so very right.....we must always practice vigilance....as I was leaving my aunt's house this last weekend a couple of machines showed up in my car as well....both are Singers they are a 15-90(1933) and a 15-91(1948)....both are in great condition...she was still using them for occasionally patching jeans and hemming slacks. They are in portable cases and I do not have cabinets for them (yet) and I have no idea where I will put them or what to do with them, but I have a soft heart when it comes to vintage machines....I am at the point where I am going to have to stop bringing them home or where I am going to have to start finding good homes for them. I know that I won't stop bring them home, so I guess I need to start finding homes for them.....with a motorectomy the 15-90 could be returned to her original state as a treadle machine.[/

When we have a machine that is not a singer where do we go to date them? I have the Diamond D49649 and a Sewmor B54723 and I have no idea where to look up such info. I'd like to gather as much data on every machine I have and keep it with the machine for further ref and in case when I kick the bucket, the info will be there. Thanks in advance for any help.

Boy, the shop has been busy while I have been on vacation. I don't have easy access to the computer. Folks are still coming up with some lovely machines.

While I am on vacation, working on cleaning a White treadle. I cleaned enough today to get the serial number so I will call the company tomorrow to get an idea what I have. I will post pictures when I get back home.

Question, the hand crank looks like it is pressed on as I cannot find a screw or pull it off. Had my brother and brother-in-law try it but doesn't budge. Does that sound right. It doesn't have the inner knob for a clutch. There is a small lever that fits in a slot on the hand wheel that acts like a clutch. Sorry would be so much easier with a picture.

Thursday, I am taking a look at a White rotary in a twig cabinet, and also a singer 28 in a sweet parlor cabinet. I don't know how I am expected to sleep for the next two nights!

I really enjoy looking at the posted photos here and reading the thread, it has made me a much better, more selective, educated shopper. Thank you everyone for all your posts and wish me luck that I can come home with something. It's two hours one way and I sure would hate to come home with an empty back seat!

Billy and everyone, I have my 1910 Singer 9W up and running! My DH was able to make the "controller wire" and it stitches perfect! Very easy treadle to use!

Now my problem is going to be getting needles -- it has the one inserted, but I can't find the vintage needles for sale! I found the post from Charlee on using Schmetz needles. She listed 5 different needles -- should I get the SMx1014A for quilting -- I looked the needles up and that is an 80 I think?

I have a question. I think I might be getting a singer 66. From what I understand the feed dogs do not drop. How do you cover them up for quilting?

Also I this one is a back clamp shank does this one still take the standard needle and bobbin?

Hi, I just found a really nice 500a in a pretty cabinet. The only problem I can see in the picture is the front cover is missing. Are these easily found or should I pass? She wants 50 for it.
