Brass brushes are a lot easier that the steel on metal surfaces. The brass is softer and will wear quicker than the steel. But, still take it easy when brushing. I have yet to damage anything that I have used the brass brush on.

Thank you Mizkaki, I just did not want to damage anything. I have lots of time now I have retired. Plus I like no harsh chemicals. Would the brass brush damage the chrome or what ever the throat plates are made of?

To those of you who have used this, do you use the type that you have to mix or do you use the tube type?

I used JB Weld recently on two different sewing machines. I used the Metal formula (good for more than just metal) and it was a two part epoxy that dried a Gray color.

I only use the mix type. It sets up quickly and does a much better job of holding. Clean surfaces are key.

Will JB Weld hold on treadle legs?

Miriam, JB weld is strong but it depends on what part of the leg, Is it one of the four supporting legs or in the foot pedal?

PS I usually go have mine welded. My next door neighbor works on restoring old cars. He always has a welder going.

AHA - it is one of the up right legs - someone must have thrown it off a truck...

Skip,

Wish you were closer, I have two treadles with broken parts. Cost to have it done here is prohibitive.

I think welding would be the choice here.

Glenn 06-02-2013 02:22 PM

Why is welding so costly in your area. It is cheap here. Most of the time free.

Glenn 06-02-2013 02:24 PM

Joe find a highschool tech class for welding and machine work they will usually do it for free or a very small donation.
