The one thing I don't like about my 319 is the free motion. I have the cover plate but it cuts into how much room there is for my fingers. It feels crowded.

As a sewing machine mechanic, some wonderful history passes over my bench and yesterday I received a Two Spool Eldredge Machine. Can't wait to get it sewing! It runs off of two full spools of thread!

Two Spool machines are cool. A spool of thread instead of a bobbin. I still don't know why this idea never caught on.

I finally got around to getting out a Singer Model 15 that I rescued from the side of the road several years ago, It is in great condition, got it all lubed and cleaned up some, but I can't get it to sew properly. This machine has the sideways bobbin (a first for me), I cleaned up that whole area and re-threaded it several times. But when I try to sew, it takes 2 or 3 stitches and no more. I can't tell if the problem is with the bobbin side or the top side. It seems to be breaking the top thread sometimes, and then sometimes just goes along with both attached but not making stitches. I guess this isn't a very good explanation, but the best I can give. Anyone have any ideas? I've done allthe usual, new needle, re-threaded both top and bobbin, but still have the same problem.

Make sure the needle is in there correctly. Make sure that the needle's flat side is facing the grove in the needlebar.

Yep, did that the first thing. It just puzzles me, it picks up the bobbin thread, then both threads just hang out there while it sews without thread. And when I manually turn the wheel, it will pull the bobbin up to the top, but then they just don't seem to cooperate with each other. I have never had this happen on any of my other old machines.

For the same reason they did not consolidate on needle size or shuttle.bobbin type. Too many options and no market pressure to conform.

Put in a new needle flat side toward the machine. Thread goes left to right. Is it threaded through the machine correctly? Check top and bottom thread tension, check the throat plate and shuttle for burrs.

Did all that. Checked the threading and re threaded several times, still does it.
