Miriam,

Take the gear cover plate off the Chinese HC. Clean it good then grease it with Tri-Flow grease. Oil the shafts with T-F too then USE it. Mine was like you describe, noisy and coarse feeling. But after the grease and oil it is smoothing out and quieting down.

Joe

I'll let Wilbur know.

but remember, if it is not getting better as you get older, you are doing it wrong.

Steve it is getting better and I am enjoying life more fishing camping and old sewig machines. I just do camping in a 26 foot camper with flat screen TV and air conditioning, just will not sleep on the ground in a tent anymore LOL. WhenIi went to visit Miriam and Phil brought my own house with us. BTW I need a source for a singer24 manual. The one with the spool holder on the back side of pillar on the bottom and auto tension on top near the rear of the machine. Thanks
