redmadder,

Try Glenn Williams @ { http://pages.suddenlink.net/joyof301s/glenn.htm }. When I needed an unobtainium spring for a FW needle plate he was able to sell me one.

He also sold me an internal belt for my white Featherweight. I've bought a machine from him, lovely man to deal with.

Thanks ya'll. I'm hoping he has the part, she doesn't care how long I take to fix it.

I know I've come to the right place & if there's an answer to my problem you'll be able to tell me if there's a solution. I've been reconditioning a 1908 Singer 27 treadle serial #D379918. I need a bobbin winder spring for it, (#8260 is what I've figured I need). I checked with Jenny @ Sew-Classic & they can't get me one new or used. Is there something I could substitute for it?

pokey, you could try bonanza.com or ebay...

Thanks for the info. I tried Ebay & bonanza.com bu found nothing there. The bonanza site was a new one for me & I'm saving it for my other machine for parts & will ck back occasionally. I wonder how the Amish find parts for their treadles? Does anyone out there know?

So, I have a question. I'm a serging newb and am reading about the machine I just purchased:

This is the Pfaff Coverlock 4862. I've read online that it does 5-thread coverstitching but the manual makes no mention of anything with 5 threads. It does do 4-thread coverstitching and 3-thread overlocking with a 2-thread overedge. So I'm wondering if they're getting the 5-thread program from the 3+2. Often these machines will thread the fifth thread through the side on the left.

Anyone familiar with these? A 4-thread is fine but a 5-thread is better (more secure). This machine does NOT do a 5-thread safety. It does 13 stitch programs in all.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Around here they go to auctions and buy up the old treadles and maybe use some of them for parts. Or sometimes they remake what they need. Almost every weekend there is an auction and you can see Amish families there.

Thanks for the info guys. Things are in the mail and my friend should get her machine back, in working order of course.
