Earlier this year my #1 9w7 suffered an unidentified malfunction ending up with a broken tip on the bobbin hook.

Anyway on to the topic. I was looking through an eBay site for odd needles when there, completely out of context, was a Singer 9W-7 bobbin hook. I contacted the seller and verified the hook was for a flat bobbin machine and when it was, bought it. It should be here in a day or so.

Now when I get the hook replaced there is still one little annoying problem I need to diagnose.

When the foot is down on the fabric there is a consistent, tight spot in the machine. With the foot up, it's gone, with the foot down on fabric it happens at the same spot every rotation. If I back the presser foot tension off the tight spot eases up, but does not go away.

I've looked and looked, oiled, cleaned, and looked some more and haven't found the cause.

My question is this. Where to look next? I suspect something might be bent but I hope not.
I've checked the needle bar and it's OK, same with the presser foot shaft.

So, any ideas from those familiar with the 9W-7?

Hi Joe,

Try adjusting the height of "feed points"? It's not self apparent and here are instructions though the manual is for D9 and might not apply to 9W7. These machines are as smooth as a baby's bottom.

Thanks I'll check that as soon as I get the hook replaced.

This machine was the victim of moving van damage. The person moving it did not remove the head from the treadle and when he drove over a speed bump the sudden up and down smashed the machine through the cabinet ripping the hinges out of the wood and driving the machine through the curved wooden panel on the bottom. The foot pedal pivots were also sheared off the bottom of the iron frame.
So anything could be wrong. I'm hoping it's just an adjustment.

Is it possible the presser foot is deflecting the needle plate just enough to touch the feed dogs when it's down?
