That's a good point. I've heard a lot of people say they were put off sewing because of a bad machine experience as a beginner. I'd go with the 201: It's very reliable, sturdy and low maintenance (with occasional cleaning and oil of course). There are also a million of them around so if you miss it just get another.

Give her the one you would like to receive if you were in her shoes. It will make you both feel good. And I bet a prettier version of a 201 will come calling in no time. If that's the one you give away.

I would not give a beginner a Necchi. Interested to know what model the Necchi is too. I don't know if I could directly compare a 201 with any Necchi I've used, except maybe the Esperia, which is very unusual. They both have a beautiful stitch, but the Necchi is harder to get accessories for and harder to get support with. It will also require more general cleaning and maintenance (oil!!). You could let her choose? That's one way to get her interested

I finally made it back and the Necchi is the Nora series. I do not have any info on this machine. If anyone has any idea where to get some info on this it would be great. Thank You!

I think the best option is to go with the 201. Thank way she can get accessories easier and wont have to worry about finding someone to work on it if need be. Thanks for all the words of wisdom

Of all the suggestions, I like this one the best.
