The Singer 27 is a serious and capable machine. Singer’s VS machines from this period are easy to use, inherently reliable with a decent supply of new and second hand spares. For the sake of originality I would be reluctant to divorce a good machine from a splendid cabinet. 😢 However it’s now your property and taking up your space so the choice is yours of course. Enjoy your machines! 👍🏻👌🏻

Such a gorgeous cabinet! They don't make things like that any more!

Some early sewing machine companies bought their own forests.

Is that called Tiger Maple as well? It's beautiful!

looks like quarter sawn oak, which Singer used quite a bit.

Singer made these cabinets in a variety of wood species, and I've seen some that must have been special order as they are not a type listed as normally available.

I started cleaning up the 27 and will leave it just as it came, just cleaned and oiled. It is quarter sawn oak.

Thank you to all who mentioned keeping the 27!
I finally got a belt on it, oiled it up, and started cleaning.
It is actually a joy to sew with. aai was a bit intimidated at the thought of the shuttle, but it works like a dream.
First use of a treadle, and as long as I don't get it going the wrong way it works great.
Thanks again
jim
