This thread cracks me up! I stroll the Seattle/Spokane/Portland/Nashville/Birmingham/Huntsville/Toledo/Ann Arbor Craigslists daily and some of the ads just send me off laughing. Very rare! Good shape! Then the prices... oy vey!

He's had this ad up since April. I emailed him 2 months ago and explained to him what he had, and showed him photos of mine (in better condition) and a link to what I paid for it, as well as showing him several completed ebay listings, then told him he was out of his ever loving mind to think he'd get that amount. He replied to me that I liked to cheat people out of what these were worth. *sigh* some people never learn...and some people will never sell their items because they're too dumb to listen to anyone with common sense.

A person could turn that right back on him. "Hand Painted adornment" No...
People may perceive that as worth more though, if they don't know enough about that machine.

Looks like a "bleached" lotus / "Egyptian Green" to me:

    or
    http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mach...ic-decals.html - about 60% down the page.

Nothing on ismacs says it's a hand painted machine....

Yep. I sent him the ISMACS info and clarified the difference between hand painted and decals...and that it was NOT a st. pats day machine...it all went in one ear and out the other. Such a shame that crappy people possess such beautiful pieces of art and history.

jennb, Ah Yes! I looked back and can see this machine was discussed in June. Quite an amusing discussion too! :-)

If he has had that up before April he was probably hoping some hubby would get it for his wife for St. Pats day.

I have sold one like it for more. I think those are a nice machine. Check to make sure everything turns and moves. Bobbin winder, reverse - all knobs and levers, etc. Take plenty of time looking it over.

I can't remember but not many plastic parts if they do - heavy machine - I have a few of those around right now and every one of them is similar but work a bit different... as far as I know they are pretty good machines - not new enough to be junk. I've only cleaned them - I haven't sewn much with them - I should test them out a bit and see how I like them. I must have a good dozen Kenmore zz machines right now. Too bad you don't live close... I have one that has knobs sorta like that - you have to know what you are doing to make it do what you want it to - my sister had it all figured out and then she went back to Mesa and I forgot how she showed me... I think I need some manuals.

I have this machine. I bought it for my daughter to learn to sew on. I got mine for $4 at GoodWill in the cabinet. It has been a great machine. Mine is a Kenmore 158.177...and until this moment, I didn't realize it took CAMS! No, I don't have anything to go with mine, no cams, or manual or extra feet...though my modern machine is a Kenmore, they can share. It's a good machine, just not sure about the price. Getting mine so inexpensively may have jaded me.

"The bottom is starting to rust out" from the ad. HHmmm.. wonder what else might be wrong with it? Seller only wants $125 for the machine but it ain't special ~ it' a Singer 478.

Well, this particular 'sewing saw' is special because it not only can cut your fabric squares but then also sews your quilt together!!!!!!
