Havplenty - Must be a good time for finding LBOW, mine is one, too. The serial number is stamped under the bed on the left side near the hinge for the extension. You don't have to remove the oil drip cover, it's outside of it.

I think I'm going to really like this machine. It really is like a big sister of the Featherweight. I just got her cleaned up and spent a few minutes test stitching but I'm impressed so far.
Jan, you will love using that 301! I really wasn't that interested in getting a 301 because when I take a machine to class, or a Girls Night Out, or use an electric machine at home, it is usually a featherweight. I was not enamored with the looks of the 301. But once I got one and started using her - geeze, I love sewing with that machine. Now, when I need a machine to take out to something, I will take either the 301 or one of my FW's, just depends on what I am doing.

Yes, she knows about it. We like to wait until the deal is done on machines that we're interested in because they get pounced on by other folks that are lurkers here...

Becky, from the Vintage Treadle Sewing Machine yahoo list posted her You Tube videos of her drawing room cabinets...they're kind of neat to watch... I have the "oak style" with my 115 in it. I want the other one now too!!

Candace and I figured that machine was made in the 70's. I would like to have it because it is red - but, he has it overpriced unless someone just has to have it because of the color. I really want a totally red Japanese 15, those are really pretty! I am not that interested in this two-tone one just because of the color. He is advertising it as an antique' and it is barely a vintage! Anyway, if I found one like it at a flea market, yard sale, for a reasonable price I would buy it - but, not for $100!

Jan, I have a 1953 301a, and I just LOVE her to pieces!! She is my piecing machine....her straight stitches are just perfectly straight, and make the most accurate seams I have ever gotten for quilting. I love the little tick, tick, tick sound she makes while sewing, and although it "feels" lightweight, it sews very strong. I never have a problem going over thicker seams. I even sew through some seams that my modern low-end Brother machine will not sew through.

I actually proved that point last year with a machine, that I had bid on at shopgoodwill.com and decided against it. When I could not retract my bid, I mentioned it here, and viola! I was outbid. I learned that after I mentioned one I really wanted, and got shot down. Lesson learned and used. But that red is a cute machine though. I would have to think about it hard if I was near it, but agree that it is overpriced.

My daughter says shes never sewing with any other machines again. She made a purse on my 301a and loves it. That will stand until she sews on the 503 and then she changes her mind. I love both of them as well as my FW.
