maybe someone can help me. i have a 15-91 in a cabinet and i love the way it sews. me and my daughter want to take sewing lessons together. in order to do that, i need a portable machine. im looking for a featherweight. are there any differences in the set up/sewing in the 15-91 and a featherweight. AND does anyone know of a website that i can buy a featherweight off of? id like for it to be "refinished" and completely working and have a nice case with it. if there is a better light weight portable singer i could look for, id love to hear about that too!
The 15-91 uses Class 15 bobbins
The Featherweight uses 221/301 bobbins
The 15-91 needles goes in flat to the right and threads left to right.
The F W needles goes in flat to the left and threads right to left.
Their top tensions are set up a bit different, but that's and easy thing to learn.
That's about all I can think of.
As for buying one "refinished" and completely working I can think of only one place, I'm sure there are more, and maybe someone here sells them like that. But I don't know of them. Take a look at The Featherweight 221 Factory at: http://thefeatherweight221factory.com/
He sells them.

A FW is so easy to work on... there are manuals... if you can follow directions to make a quilt you can renovate a machine... it just isn't rocket science...

joe,
thanks for that great information. im going to go and check him out now. i was hoping the bobbins and attachments would be interchangeable since i am only going to be using the featherweight for classes with my daughter. thanks again for referring me to someone who can sell me a ready to use sewing machine!

miriam,
i could handle doing the repairs. its just easier for me buy one ready to go. i already have a ton of projects lying around, and if i add one more to it, then it or something else will get pushed to the side. after raising 3 kids and helping them with school and activities, there arent any hours left in the day for me to "redo" a sewing machine.

Ashley,
The Featherweight and the 15-91 are both low shank, so the attachments are interchangeable.
