His report was that Apple has made a few "tweaks" with this and that, but as executing truly innovative technology, as Apply usually does, the iPhone 5 pretty much misses the mark, It's screen is a bit bigger (means you can have another row of apps visible -- big Whoop!), and it's a bit lighter. But, nothing innovative or technologically significant. Note: Apple foresook the Google Maps database and went with its own proprietary mapping database...which, when reviewed by folks here in Silicon Valley, was not described in glowing terms. The mapping software is loaded with "bugs", making that portion of the system unreliable.
I have a Windows phone, the NOKIA Luminal 900; currently running Windows - Phone 7.5. The camera feature is hard to beat. I have a Nikon professional level digital SLR...and find the camera on my phone serves many of my purposes just fine. The camera has telephoto & macra capabilities and functions with a Carl Zeiss lens (world-class optics). I work with a bunch of technically sophisticated folks who have been blown away by my toy.
I especially enjoy being able to use the voice aspect of creating text messages...I don't have to type them anymore.
Consider this, when it was announced that the iPhone 5 maps were below sub-standard and there was little that is innovative in the iPhone 5, Nokia's stock rose by several points.
Full disclosure requires I tell you that I've lived in Silicon Valley for 30 years and have had it "up to here" with all the slobbering and swooning over any product that Apple puts into the market. This is first release Apple has done since Steve Jobs passed away. Along with Jobs, Apple innovation seems to have gone away, as well. Even at that, though, Apple merely polished a product and marketed it as something that caused people to stand in line overnight, just to have one. I may be from Illinois, but with proximity to Missouri, I have something of the "Show Me" perspective.
I am not disagreeing with anything you say - but - I love the idea that there are people to help me if I have a problem. and with my iMac things are very simple to coordinate, back up, etc. I have walked into the local Apple store on occasion and the "genius" was able to help me. Also, we have called the Applecare number when we were converting from PC to Mac and have always gotten wonderful customer support. So, for that I am grateful. I was happy with my Iphone 3, happier with my iPhone 4, and planning to enjoy the iPhone 5 once I get it. The pictures I take are good enough for me since I am not an expert and just want to have a memory. Like I said in the beginning, to each his own. Let us all enjoy our phones, whether flip, Windows, iPhone, or Android.

I second the above comments. I've had a Mac since 1990. I like their user friendly products and great customer service. I stay with what I know works for me. I just have to figure out which service provider is best in my area before buying the iPhone 5.

I agree too. I have the iPhone 4S and I got it first because it was supposed to be compatible withy my cars text messaging compatability plus it was free for switching my home phone to Sprint. I can't say that I'm impressed by it but I can't say that I'm disapointed either. They did just release a great upgrade that will help fix some things and added more features to the phone. I went into the Apple store and it's great to have the support right there. That is why I chose the Nook over the Kindle; one on one support. No matter how great a phone is you also have to check out the provider as well. If they don't have good coverage then the phone won't either. There are areas where Sprint doesn't have the greatest of coverage with the smartphones but by the end of the yr that'll be changed with the release of 4G and 4G lite and 3G boost. I do plan on getting a different phone and only because I want one that does the text messaging with my car. I'll wait for it to be a special before that happens. We are all different and want different things and that is a good thing. Life would be so boring it we all wanted the same things in life. To each his own and let everyone enjoy what makes them happy. I tell my kids if you are trying to decide if you should buy something think of three things, do you really want it, can you afford it and are you worth it. I also tell them that the last answer should always be Yes, I'm worth it.

Don,t let that stop you. Just plan on spending time at the apple store or the phone shop. Then just goggle any questions on your computer and you can get through anything. Shelf taught on an iPad soon to have an iPhone 4.

I was told at the Apple store here that they have classes to teach you how to do it all. I think that's great. I've not seen that from any other company. I just have to get my schedule rearranged so that I can at least try what all it has to offer while I have it.

well You want to here my story??? My husband went down and bought the iPhone 5. I was not happy at all. I don't care if he is the one with the job, and makes the money. I keep track of the budget and we did not have the money for it. Now we are going to have to make adjustments on the budget to make it all work. I need a root canal and I don't see that happening anytime soon either. We could have had 1/2 the money for that if it was not for the cost of the I phone 5. The car the teenagers drive needs a new ignition and some other little things that we need money for. That is what I think o the iPhone 5. which by the way he did not need.
By the way he had an iPad and when the new one came out he just had to get the new one. ANother thing he did not need that cost us a bunch of money. At this rate I will have to get a job and he can be around to pick up the kids from school, take them to school, take them to appointments, ect. SO there you have it. Sorry to have ranted like that. It kind of feels good though... :-)
