I have a Janome 6600 that developed a "catch" when lifting and lowering the presser foot after using it for a couple months. The machine was never misused or knocked around. This annoying "catch" developed after using the dual feed system for attaching the binding on several hot pot holders. I took the machine into the dealer and was told it was "nothing". "Don't worry about it. It's not affecting the sewing performance." Well, I can't stop worrying about it, and I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this "catch". By the way, it doesn't have the "catch" all the time, only about half the time, and it will have it for several hours of sewing, then stop. Anyone have something similar happening? :?: :shock: :?:

i'm not sure what you mean by "catch".

do you mean the foot won't raise and lower properly?

If you haven't done this yet, join the Yahoo Janome 6500 and 6600 group. I guarantee you'll get more specific advise there. Those gals seem to have seen it all.

The "catch" is a little "snag" as I raise and lower the presser foot. There is a little resistence at a point in between up and down and it makes a click noise. I took the end plate off and looked inside while raising and lowering it and couldn't see what the cause was. There is a definite small jolt, or letting go"jump" that happens with the noise, so I know it's catching on something. Then all of a sudden it will go away and raise and lower smoothly. Really odd. I'll check into the 6600 group, but I would love to hear from all of you too. Thanks.

and you're just raising to the first position? not all the way up like to attach the dual feed?, is it with all feet or just one?

well over the weekend i raised and lowered mine several times trying to see anything that might get in the way and i couldn't come up with any ideas, sorry

Thanks for checking. I'm debating whether I should pursue this anymore with the dealer. She's correct in that it doesn't affect the stitch, but will it someday? ....perhaps 366 days after purchase when the warranty expires? Ha ha.

In addition to checking with the yahoo groups, which is a great idea, I would also see if you can speak with a sewing machine repairman to ask about the "catch".

You might also want to call the headquarters office and see if they have a repairman you can speak with or their customer service department. The dealer may not want to deal with the situation until the non problem becomes a problem causing a repair bill to you.
