Unhappy I need motivation

I finished up another quilt top. Now I have 8 that need to be sandwiched and quilted. I even have 5 bats and 7 backings. So why do I procrastinate? Or is it fear of FMQ on my domestic??? I should bring at least 3 to the LQS for them to do. I like to start projects, but then lose interest. I have already traced out the pattern for a fish wall hanging that I will start cutting tomorrow. Any suggestions on how to get motivation and get them done?

I don't think I would worry about it. If you don't want to finish them, just don't. They can always wait until you are in the mood...or not at all. Or maybe you want to stitch in the ditch or crosspatch, or stitch near the ditch, etc....instead of FMQ?

If I were you, I'd just sew on what I wanted. Or....if you feel you really want to do them but just can't get started, how about a reward system. I always reward myself for doing something (or even just starting something) that I don't want to do. (I would never clean bathrooms without a reward in mind. )

There's a lot to be said for the finishing processes after piecing. I HATE the sandwich process. Mostly because I have small rooms with no large area to spread out or spread flat the sandwich. If I get on the floor, I can barely get up after a short time. If I'm bent over a bed or table for long, I'm sore for days.

Bringing to a long arm quilter is expensive, and though well worth it, probably isn't the answer to every quilt you make. Maybe you just don't enjoy doing the FMQ yourself or don't feel confident? Have you tried or like to do hand quilting? Maybe mixing up between the three alternatives would give you some enjoyment?

Perhaps there's someone on the QB that loves to quilt, hates to piece and you could work out some sort of mutual agreeable swap/arrangement.

Maybe after all that quilting you just need a little rest. Piecing eight quilts is a huge accomplishment in and of itself. Would love to see pics of your tops.

Make a bargain. You don't get any gifts until his gift is finished.

I am a huge believer that the best gift I can give myself is using a Long Arm Pro.... I made the promise to myself several years ago that I would sell some of my finished quilts if I had to, in order to have some one else quilt my tops. The thought of shoving and straining in the quilting process was not the way to have a hobby I love. I still quilt some smaller things, but bed quilts .... out they go to the pro!
I think I would even give up chocolate to have my quilts done by a pro.... I would even sell some stash ( which I have) to send them out to a pro.

I don't consider myself a quilter - I'm a top maker. I love picking out a pattern, picking out the fabrics, cutting it, and piecing it and then I'm done. I am not interested in quilting it. I have found a wonderful lady who does all of my quilting for a reasonable price and that is where they go when I'm done.

I like making big tops and get hung up at the sandwiching stage. If it is under 60" it will get done, but just the thought of trying to sandwich 104" leaves me tired. I enjoy the quilting. I just have to find someone that will make the sandwich for me. LOL
