Quilt spacing for fleece backing

Quilt spacing for fleece backing
I'm back...I have 2 jelly roll stripe quilts I am trying to get done in time for Christmas. They have fleece backing with no batting. I just got done tying the 1st and am thinking it would be faster to SID. I know quilt spacing is based on the batting you use, but since I have no batting I have nothing to go on. I was thinking I would be able to do every other row (approx 4") and have it hold together or would I need to do every row? The fleece is Polartec if that makes a difference. These are my 1st quilts so I am clueless and appreciate any advice you can offer

My LQS has Minky/fleece throws that are done by sewing 4-5 inch rows of Minky to the fleece backing. You sew a strip of minky starting at the top and add additional rows down the length until you get to the bottom. All assembled and quilted as you go, they were great.

the reason for the quilting distance recommendations with batting is due to the fibers separating and pulling apart when the quilt is laundered- using fleece (or flannel) with no batting means you can quilt any amount you want- or as little as you want- the fiber is not going to pull apart- separate. the amount can be a total personal choice and will be fine- should be (balanced) to look right- beyond that- do as you please.

This quilt has a fleece back if it shows on the pictures one area about 4 inches apart but centre very close. Donot think I found the centre back which has the names of the owners 4 children. Oops one mistake no idea how to remove. It was a quick quilt to make . The four tiny stars have the names inside. This quilt is on the owners bed she loves it.

Fleece would be at least equal to Soft and Brite by Warm Company. It is a needled poly and quilts up to 10" apart. I have done fleece backings on numerous quilts and have done large designs that would equal 8-10" apart and have had no problems with them. I think you could even go up to 12" on a fleece with no problems, just take into consideration what your top design is and quilt accordingly.
