I don't have a comment to make concerning QAYG, as I have never done that. But I do want to say "Your Sampler quilt is just beautiful! ". Love it!

Hello, thanks for all the nice comments, especially for the informations prism99 gave to me! I think your suggestions are very helpful! And I'm looking forward how this method will work... I'll post about it!

You can get some terrific info on this if you go to www.jennyhaskins.com - enter the shop - click on videos - and scroll down to the bottom one [ a set of 3 ] and one halfway down called 'Perfect Bliss'. These are webinars, and a bit lengthy if you aren't into machine embroidery, but Jenny gives excellent instructions for QAYG, albeit one block or strip at a time, adding sashing etc.

I don't have this book but I have made several QAYG queen size quilts. I always quilt the blocks before I join them. This is the reason I use QAYG technique.....since you have already finished the quilt top...I would use Prism99 suggestion and split the batting in 3....I have done this with 2 queen size quilts and it works fine..you can join the batting with tape or just zigzag it...

Gorgeous work!!!! I do sections and the wavy batting technique, so there are no weak lines/areas when quilting. I hand baste the batting together in a zig zag pattern. I hate dealing with a large cumbersome quilt on my DSM...even though I have the Janome 8900 with the large harp space, so the sectioning technique works for me. This may sound crazy, but I "Spot spray", by section.. not the whole thing...enough to hold things together. I don't like the overspray problem and mess..works for me, and saves on the spray.

My avatar was made quilt as you go . Each block was reverse appliquéd then I machined over the edges with a fancy stitch then I joined the blocks. And machined a fancy pattern down. You need to hand stitch the back seam.

I hope this makes sense.
This is all done my machine and sounds easy to do, NO hand sewing.

I have that book also. I prefer sewing the backing or someimes the front by hand.
In the tutorial section on this board there is a String Quilt by Ditter. All machine sewing, I made a double size quilt for our bed using her method, it turned out great.

I have done two quilts with QAYG; they were done in panels. The first one I did was done (30 blocks) with a single block by 5 across then, then I joined the 6 panels. The technique was taken from a lady on YouTube, "QAYG-No Sashing". It was a 4 part videos. My last quilt was done in 3 panels; 2 blocks by 6 block panels. My only challenge was realizing that I had to attach each border separately and quilt it as I had done the panels. The only difference I did with the two quilts that I made was to stitch in the ditch following my pattern rather than free motion. They both turned out great and were easy enough since I didn't have the bulk of the quilt to wrestle with. I have just finished a quilt top that will be QAYG, but will be done in sections as there was not a way that I could figure how to do the in panels at the time. After I have finished the top, I now realize that I could have QAYG as it was actually done in sections and joined to create the finished pattern, LOL.
