    Default Two sided quilt quilting

I am making a 2 sided quilting featuring some of the Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric. Panels on both sides but different sizes. Borders also different sizes. How should I quilt this? Background or SID or outline stitching on the front won't match the back. I've never done an overall pattern on my DM. Do I have to do that? Or just quilt the front the way I want it to look?

I would suggest an overall pattern such as a stipple or meandering. This way it won't have to match up both sides.
You could also do loops $ stars. Really any over all pattern you choose would look nice I'm sure.

Would cross hatching work? That way you could still use your walking foot and straight lines.

Totally up to you but I think I would go with an all over pattern myself. A meander or cross hatching would both work well. If you could do a large meander, it would look like the caterpillar was crawling all around the quilt?

When I made a 2 sided quilt I quilted each side separately --- one side was a Spiderman panel, the other side a Cars panel. I used the panel and batting when quilting each panel -- then put them together and bound them after stitching just a few spots so the quilts didn't separate. It turned out really cute if I do say so myself! For some reason I didn't take a picture of it though!

What batting did you use that didn't make it over stiff and heavy? A thin polyester?

I didn't know quilting could be done without a backing. The batting doesn't get stuck in the feed dogs?

I would do a large stipple or meandering. This is mostly what I do on all my quilts.
