I use baby wipes on ink stains, they usually come out and do not ruin anything.

Have you tried using hand sanitizer to remove the marks?
I would dab it on with a q-tip and see if that will work. It has been effective on a number of other types of marks on fabric.

Sorry for the error. Great suggestions were given. . . here's another one....don't dry the quilt in a dryer until your satisfied with the stain removal. I believe the dryer heat would really permanently set that marker.

Please let us know how it turns out. Pictures please! You know we love pictures!

Place a mark with the permanent marker on a scrap of fabric, spray well with hairspray and let it set for a few minutes. Then wet a washcloth, wring most of the water out of it and put a small amount of soap on the washcloth and rub the marker spot well. This should remove the permanent marker spot. If it works on your test piece you will know it will work on your quilt. I use this method to remove ink and permanent marker spots from clothes to furniture. Good luck.

I've been trying some of the suggestions on my sandwich. Seems like the 91% alcohol is working the best. I just used it on my quilt and it is looking pretty good. I will check on it in the morning when it is dry.
This quilt needs to be special. It is for my twin sister who recently tried to commit suicide. Her favorite color is purple and she loves hearts so that is what the quilt is. I want her to feel she is covered with a warm hug whenever she is feeling down. I will be seeing her tomorrow at her granddaughter's birthday party and was hoping to have the quilt done. The marker set me back so it will not be done but I will take it anyway to show her what I am making. I am sure she will love it.
Thanks, everyone, for all you great suggestions. This board is the greatest!

The daughter of my daughters friend was drawing a picture with a black sharpie. None of us realized that her paper was on top of a table runner that I had completed recently. The black went through the paper onto the table runner. The little girl felt so bad - it was hard not to be upset with her - that would not have solved anything though. Long story, short ... I never did get the marker out - it did fade over time - and I tried many different things. I have to admit that it made me sick - it was an applique of a lot of shells - thankfully not turned, but fused.

    Hi Pam,
I would do what Tartan said. I would use a decorative purple thread. Have you tried a "Tide to go" stain remover? Just a thought.

I have also used hairspray on regular ink.

Try Grandma's spot remover. Can buy at Hancock's. I used it to get red nailpolish out of a quilt.
