I'm not "experienced" but I do help teach basics to newbies where I live. I can help, and believe we'll have others jump in when we need advice.

Could our newbie's explain what they do know, what machine they have, basic idea of what supplies they've bought. And if you've taken any local classes, or from family. What you want to learn.

This would better help us connect to help.

I'd like someone in the know to explain what all the abbreviations mean. What is FM? And others. I've been teaching myself. Only do rectangles and squares and my corners don't always match up. I have a Janome Horizon 7700QCP. Really like it. Be certain to register. They will send you upgrades. I got a new 1/4" foot today.

Thank you for sharing this information. I never even thought of how many stitches per inch. Just do what the machine is set at.

This is great. I am going to copy and put in my sewing album.
I just sew and never pay attention to stitches per inch. I will read the article and learn much from it.

BOB = Beginner’s Only Block (swap)
BOM = Block of the Month
Charm Pack = package of pre-cut squares
Charms = Small pieces of fabric, either squares or sometimes hexagons, all different fabrics
COC = cream on cream
CT = Connecting Threads
D4P = Double four patch
DC/DDog = Dear Cat/Dear Dog (spell out dog, otherwise may be mistaken for Dear Daughter)

I want to be adopted... am brand new to quilting, but can sew. It's the only thing that keeps me sane! I want to make Christmas tree skirts for my family and had better get started or it will be summer!! I had an idea for one. Both my son and daughter in law were in the Navy and are very patriotic. I was thinking of a Christmas tree skirt with an American flag/eagle on it. Anybody know of a pattern for such a thing?
