Went on a little scouting mission today and found a couple of nice machines..if anyone lives in the Chicago area you should go and get one or both of these. At the resale (TopHat?) shop for Delnor hospital in Geneva Illinois they have 2 machines. The first is a black 15 clone made in Japan , branded for Macy's in New York. Really nice, clean with great decals and a manual in a case for $75.00. No attachments. Very shiny!
Also, and here's the really good buy... a Singer 301, black, short bed. Nice decals. Clean except for a small dirty area on the base in the front, looks like it will clean up nicely. This has all attachments, oil can, extra bobbins, manual, and the case, which is really nice. I have this machine or I would have gotten it. Priced at $75.00. They may even be willing to negotiate. If some one does go get it, please post, as I may go back tomorrow if I can't stop thinking about it!

Ok, I know I read this somewhere but I'm on research overload. What is the difference between a 15 and 15-91? Got a lead on one in cabinet for $40 locally so no shipping!!

I have never seen a red one, but I would grab it in a heartbeat.

15 is the machine class; 15-91 is a class 15 machine with a potted motor.

Hi again! Thought I would stop in before y'all reached 1,000 pages.

I have a question about my 1975 Bernina 830 (tons cheaper than the current Bernina 830!). Yesterday I was merrily quilting along and my machine stopped running. As usual I reached down to push the plug back into the foot pedal. When I picked it up I notice it was very hot. I mean really hot. Put the pedal on the floor again and went to sew... no dice! She ain't moving.

The light on the machine remained on so I am pretty sure the problem lies with the foot pedal. But, what would cause it to heat up like that and why won't it move?

Anyone, know what is going on here? To my recollection this has not happened before in the 36 years I have had her. Hopefully, someone knows what's going on. Thanks for any help you can give me. Nice chatting with y'all again. :-D :-D

Judy I HAVE seen a red one - fire engine red to be exact -- I want one really bad! They were made in metallic blue, green, pink, yellow, and fire engine red! Yep, that red one is on my wish list for sure!

Sewextreme, can you sew manually - I mean can you just turn the hand wheel and nothing is frozen - it sews freely?

Did you try plugging something else into the plugin that your machine was plugged into to make sure that wall socket is ok?

Is the cord that goes to your foot pedal broken/cracked like maybe something is wrong there?

I am just throwing things out - you have probably tried all this so it is probably in your foot pedal. It would be nice if you had another foot pedal to try on your machine - then you'd know!
