Congrats on your new 301! I think that is by far, my favorite machine. Can't wait to see some pics. Your Bernina looks beautiful and I hope it can go in a cabinet.

I wonder if the foot with rollers is a leather foot? What we call teflon rollers on our modern feet, for sewing leather.

In the last month I acquired first a black 301, then a Spartan, then a 1916 Red Eye 66. i have to say that by far so far my favorite for stitches is the 301. I LOVE the sound of the Red Eye. The Spartan I'm still working with. It is the nicest looking one of the 3 as its in almost mint condition, but I think it may need some springs replaced or something. It's like I can hear them when I raise the presser foot, or something like that...and feel them. It's just not normal feeling and I don't know how else to describe it...lol

I am LOVING my machines though!

I put my Domestic away todya for awhile though. Trying to get it to work right is distracting me to much from sewing :)

That IS a pretty green Bernina! One of the previous owners may have replaced an old original beat up carrying case with a new(er than the wood one) plastic one. I originally switched the Domestic out of its plastic case and put the electrified 66 in its case because the 66 case was so beat up. Now the 66 is in a cabinet that came with the Domestic. I like her there too :)

One of the unidentified feet has two rollers on it, like rolling pin rollers, and have no clue as to their purpose. My sister guessed maybe for satin or velvet or another slippery fabric and I'm wondering if maybe I can use it like a walking foot. .[/quote]

I bought a roller foot and the card states that it should be used when shifting occurs because the top and the bottom are not being fed at the same rate: sounds like it'd be worth a try as a walking foot to me.
It goes on to say that corduroy, velvet, velveteen, stretch velour, stretch terry, synthetic suede and imitation leather are all fabrics that could benefit from the roller foot.

Ok so my husband finally got the foot pedal rewired for "my" Singer 15-91 (on long-term loan from a friend). I got bobbins, I got a re-print of the manual. Only thing I forgot to check on was the needles. I want to give her a spin this evening, but need to stop at the fabric store on my lunch break to buy needles. Does anyone know what kind? Do they have to be Singer, or can they be Smetz (sp)? TIA :)

Schmetz needles work great , I use them in all of my machines, both newer and vintage.

I thought so, but then had someone at a store tell me no. Which means that the same Smetz needles will work for my 221, 15-91 & 403. Perfect! Thank you!

OK Vintage Machine owners...another question...On my 301 and my Redeye when you wind bobbin the needle goes up and down also...Is there some way to wind the bobbin without that happenning? I'm thinking not...but maybe I'm missing something.
