Thanks, Charlee....I knew you or Monica would have the answer. It was going along fine...in fact, it was just whipping along! That thing is FAST! Then all of a sudden the belt started slipping out of the groove. I suspected it had stretched, but wanted to be sure that was the problem before I cut it off again.
I love how the NVF treadles, too....really, really smooth!! I can't believe how easy it is to treadle. Lots easier then my 1956 Singer 15 in the straight leg treadle. That thing gives me a workout!
Monica, question....the treadle belt on my NVF has started slipping out of the groove on the wheel on the irons...is it too loose? It was a brand new belt when I put it on.

As to belts, I have tested the leather, the metal, and the aquarium tubing. My favorite so far is the aquarium tubing that I have picked up for super cheap at the Diaso Japan store ( like a dollar store). Why I like this material over the others is the fact that it is cheap, easy to cut, easy to sew through, grips the treadle groove, and doesn't make a noise like the metal one does.

Last photo is the Davis NVF.

Are all Davis machines vf?
Oh, I used tape to hold the tubing while stitching the tubing together with dental floss. The white dental floss isn't showing up in the photo. Only the tape around the tubing is showing in the photo.
