They look alike except for the cabinet! Do you know how to age one? Have you tried to sew on yours at all?

Nancy
Ok doing some research I found out the Free Manufacturing company started in 1910 and made machines in Rockford, Ill until 1958 when it moved the company to LA, California for about 10 more years until it faded out.

So I would guess this machine is between 1910 and 1920?

After advice from this board, I bought a 15-91 locally for $60. It's a great heavy duty worker. I also love that cabinet- very deco. I'd definitely go for it!

I thought that would be a cute way to decorate a wall in a sewing room. The drawer, now shelf, could hold light weight vintage objects and a mini quilt could be hung underneath. I have a front tray from a very badly ruined cabinet to a treadle that I got when I picked up my free Singer 9W1. The front tray and drawers were the only items worth saving after the treadle. I was planning on selling the front drawer, but after seeing this I may just hold onto it for this project. Has anyone else seen this done?
That sounds like a wonderful way to use an orphaned drawer!!

What do you guys think?

Here are pictures of the Free Treadle that a friend of a friend wants to sell me. Her parents have passed on and she want to sell this treadle. I think I could get it for under $100? I don't wants it if I have to find a special needle for it.

Nancy
I knew that I had just seen a cabinet like yours on Craigslist and I had wondered what it would look like opened up. This person is asking for $100: http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/atq/2159975320.html

I saw this on craigslist this morning - make offer on Singer 66 (head only) in Portland OR area -

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/for/2162748949.html

This might be a low-cost machine for someone in the area. I already have a 66.

It all depends on what the faceplate looks like, and I can't tell from the picture.

Use this handy Singer ID guide
http://www.sandman-collectibles.com/...achines.htm#23

Or ask the seller for the serial #!

I am amazed at the educational value of this thread. I don't know how to put in links, but there is a beautiful Davis Vertical Feed on Craigslist in Modesto CA listing. I though someone might like to check it out.

That one posted here is the Cabinet No.24 embossed with a Singer machine that looks like a Redeye possibly.
