Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Actually, I've found my Bernina 830 with regulator(shhhhh, not vintage) is the bomb, but my 301's can't be beat for FMQ over all my other vintage machines. Though, I have to say, unbelievably my Singer 185(similar to 99) is an awesome FMQ! I was really surprised by that. Yes, the harp is small, but it makes a great stitch. The feed dogs don't lower, but that doesn't bother me much. I've been in the process of trying all my vintage machines at FMQ this week, just so I have a handle of their strengths and weaknesses.

Some stores have those BIG jars of pickles... Nancy we probably could think of more fun stuff - that just comes to mind... There are a couple managers would be fun to get their faces on video as we do such a deed.... stuffy..... no sense of humor..... It might never happen - I don't buy lottery tickets... hhhmmmmm I might make an exception.

Yes I can got the machine out of the cabinet in 2 minutes to the astonishment of the people who had it stuck for 20 years but pictures from one place to another befuddle me to no end. I think I have to see it. That cabinet looks like a refugee from a toothpick factory. It will need tlc more so than the machine. The irons move the best I've seen. (I haven't see many) I have pictures to post... grrr

Candace have you ever tried to FM with a 15? I do FM with all my Pfaff's, but I haven't tried it with the 319w - I don't have a 301 to try! I have done FM with my Davis Vertical Feed, but the machine that I prefer to FM with is my 15-88 treadle! I love that machine for one; it is awesome to FM with because it has a prefect stitch and the feed dogs drop; two because I am treadling I get a really nice pattern and stitch length (I think because you don't have speed bursts like you can with an electric machine) - you go much slower and more steady when treadling. Anyway, I haven't tried most of the other machines, but I know my 15 clone's would be awesome to FM too because the feed dogs drop. But, again with the clones, I would be using an electric machine with the speed problem - sometimes I get heavy on the gas pedal!

Awesome-looking machines!
[QUOTE=ThayerRags;4749329Some folks believe that the model 71 (120.71) was made by New Process Gear, a division of the Chrysler Corporation. Prior to the model 71, they made the model 49 (120.49) in 1950, and an updated model 49 (120.491) in 1954, which were also aluminum machines. [/QUOTE]

I have this machine in yellow, and hunted a long time to find a GF one just like it, as she constantly tried to get mine!! It is one of my favorite machines to sew on. It originally came as electric, which I of course removed, and I have used it both as a treadle and a handcrank. It's the same bed size and pin distance as Singer, so works in a Singer treadle and the repro HC works great on it. It also has dropping feed dogs. The price is a bit high, but if I were in the market for a good class 15 machine, this would be it.
I am still on my quest to find either a 15 "clone" or one of the "newer" Japanese made machines that drop the feed dog so I can get set up for FMQ on a vintage machine. Lost a bid on a really nice two-tone 15 clone on ebay this weekend
Here a one of the "newer" ones listed on CL. Would like opinions please. Not familiar at all with Brother machines. Would this be good to use for FMQ?

TIA for any thoughts, comments, suggestions!

Well, I just have to quit going outside. That's all there is to it. If I don't go outside, they can't follow me back inside.
Singer 27, serial 15318008, which puts it at 1898. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. Right now it and the Red Eye I found last weekend are standing guard next to my fireplace.
I found out 2 things today: My expression must be pretty terrible when shop owners pull out the Windex bottle and insist on "cleaning up the cobwebs," because I was rapidly reassured it was only water. Also, my mother is an enabler, no question about it.

My neighbor just gave me this machine. It's a White 77. It belonged to his aunt and he's had it in his house taking up space for a loooong time and wanted it to have a good home. It's in a neat desk with lots of unusual compartments, with all original attachments and manual. The cert. with it says it was sold in 1951. It's in excellent condition from what I can see in my fairly dark garage. When it warms up I'll play with it. The manual says it takes White Rotary needles. Are these special needles? Anyone have this machine?
