Nancy do tell, how does the new Pfaff sew. That is one beautiful machine. Congrats. Kathie
Trish this is so funny! The manager of the Thrift Store, which sells donated stuff to benefit African education, etc., said he was really glad the machine was gone! He was getting tons of calls and e-mails - everyone wanting him to ship the machine! I told him it was because it was a Pfaff treadle, which are not common machines to have! He said he has had several different treadles in the past that didn't get any attention! I am so proud to be the owner of this machine. It was/and is my dream machine. The first sewing machine I ever used was a Pfaff - not a treadle, the first time I ever used a treadle was a couple years ago - but still a Pfaff!

Nancy,
The Germans may have used the chrysanthemum decals in honor of the legend (another speculation from me).
Here is the Legend of the Chrysanthemum.
One cold, snowy Christmas Eve in Germany's Black Forest, a peasant family was sitting down to a meager supper when they heard a wailing. At first they thought it was the wind. But upon hearing the sound repeatedly, they opened the door and found a beggar. They ushered in the poor man who was blue with cold, wrapped him in blankets, and shared their food.
Instantly, the blankets were shed, revealing a man in shining white clothing with a halo around his head. Proclaiming himself the Christ Child he fled. The next morning, outside the door where he had stood, were two white chrysanthemums. Today, many Germans bring white chrysanthemums into their homes on Christmas Eve, believing that by doing so they are sheltering the Christ Child.

And one more note! For fun, google Lahr, Germany for the beautiful slide shows of the Chrysanthemum Festival in that lovely city.
Nancy, I'm so happy that you did get this Pfaff. When I read your post yesterday morning stating that you would have to let this machine go, I was upset. In my mind this was your machine; it just screamed Nancy. As I have stated the machine has a way of finding the new steward, a calling. Well, you are the new steward for this beautiful Pfaff and treadle. It will be well loved and used! I'm sure she sews beautifully.
I am in the middle of doing taxes, so I can't play, otherwise I'd already know which one to use or if there is yet another case?
PS I know why they practically gave me the 15 clone! It is so jammed up it is ridiculous! I can't wait to get my taxes done so I can play. I need a really pretty name that means flower for the Pfaff. Monica?
Nancy
Monica, you are so much fun! I love the little history! I will put that with the papers for my machine! To those of you asking how the Pfaff sews - the jury is still out on that one. She was missing her bobbin case and I didn't know the bobbin cases have at least 2 different orientations for the class 15 machines! I have the bobbin case that goes into my 15-88 that orientates to the left, and the case that goes into the 15 clone that orients to the right - the finger that is? So until I get this machine cleaned and oiled I am afraid to try either one? Cathy?????

Nancy,
The BC with the finger to the left (11:00) only fits a few models of Singers, the 15-88(treadle),
the15-89 (handcrank), the 15-90 (belted motor), the 15-91 (potted motor), the 15-125 (modern skin),
and a few others. All other class 15 machines whether or not they have the tension on the face plate
or the front of the machine will take the BC with the finger to the right (1:00). Your new $5.00
Clone's BC will fit the Pfaff (if it is a 15).

Davis Vertical feed?
I got more pictures on the Davis machine that was listed on CL. I think it is a vertical feed, but seems that one "toe" is broken off the foot. It can't work correctly without that foot being complete, can it?Texas JanIt is rough!!!!
