Cher, I'm with you...I may just do this as I go...Or scan as I go, not sure yet. I had planned to scan but I'm afraid if I make too much work it will slow me down and frustrate me. I might try to just get close as I can to the colors I chose for a particular square to put into the layout on the software. Then I'll have an idea, but not the exact quilt. We'll see! I'm still debating.

i planned my color placement only in that some sections will be red with blue while others will be white with blue.

i didn't bother to scan my fabric in, i just used similar existing type fabric in the dear jane software and when i make the blocks in real life i'll decide exactly which print to use.

its just to much of a bother to scan in exact fabrics.

Okie, Good job on your triangle. Is that going to be your background fabric? Cool!

I got so excited with all of this talk, and having all of my supplies ready, I thought I'd make the M8 block tonight. Wrong! LOL

I thought having done the C1 block in Amma's tute that I was ready, but I really have no clue I guess. I printed out the paper piecing pages from the software, so I have more templates than I know what to do with. LOL!!

I started with one of the side sections with only 3 easy looking pieces on it. I think I got the center triangle piece glued lightly on, and now I'm stumped.

I hope I don't (or won't) need absolute step-by-step directions for long, but right now I can't even see how to put this together.

Thanks Klue! I am sure that will help. Quite a few of the steps missing, than from Amma's, tho. hehehe! I think after just doing it, right or wrong, I'll learn fast. But tomorrow... it's so late now and I'm tired. :)

No that was the triangle I made for the swap. I'm making my DJ the colorwave that Klue is making, I wanted red white and black at first but when I saw Klue's diagonal design I knew that was what I wanted, she didn't mind me copy catting her's. I particularly like the diagonal design.

the only thing thats missing is the same step over and over again.

you put a piece of fabric over the area that you just did, right sides together, sew along the straight line, press that fabric open, put a piece of fabric over the area that you just did, right sides together, sew along the straight line, etc, etc, etc.

the only differences i've seen with the way people paper piece are

- do they sew thru the paper or just use it as a seam guideline as in the freezer paper method

- do they cut all the pieces out to roughly cover the area (i think thats what amma does) or do they just use fabric strips and trim it down after its sewn in place (method i use).

here's a tute i did for the christmas jane swap because some people wanted to see the method i use since you really don't waste that much fabric.

it shows step by step how to paper piece a multi unit block using long strips of fabric.
