Count me in - although it's a little overwhelming. I've had the book and have been thinking about a DJ for at least a year. Like many others I don't know what colors I'll use. I think I'll use a few different, yet similar, backgrounds so that I can use stash and don't have to go buy so much background fabric. Looks like folks are thinking we'll need anywhere from 7 to 15 yards for the background. ?? Not sure I can keep up with the 3 blocks a week pace, but maybe 2 blocks a week? We'll see.

Does anyone know what the special triangles are needed for? Is it just the triangle pieces? Does anyone have an idea on how long it's been taking you to do one of the beginner blocks? Will try to keep up!!!

I am tempted as I have one started (6, 3, 0, 96) last worked on Sept. 2003. Mid January I might just find my book and I do have the rulers with my blocks. You are tempting me! ! !

Thanks, Steph is doing a lot better - was actually able to celebrate our 'faux Christmas dinner' with family last night and stay with everyone til they left. This didn't happen on Thanksgiving! she was down for the count within 2hrs - maybe 1... She has surgical pain and a little nausea. We know this will take care of the pain, nausea & heartburn over the past months - but I hope and pray for more!! Surgeon said although the stones were all contained in the gallbladder which should not itself cause pain - the organ was very severely inflammed. Behcets is an auto-inflammatory disease so I hope and pray this has been the reason for the now nearly 6yrs of non-stop pain. Then my 30yr old daughter can resume a normal life and won't have to resort to more toxic treatments. Time will tell - 'surgical honeymoons' can last a month [this is what they call particularly laproscopic aftermaths - when they put gas in and move organs around in your gut during surgery it gives relief for a while.]

I am hopeful!!

Gus

I am posting an alphabetical 'interest' listing - if you don't see your name here, could you please let me know. I thought if I have a complete list I can make sure you all know if anything important is going on... I also think there are a few names here of QB members that have moved on to other blogs but may pop in occasionally.

I am interested in knowing just how the quilt as you go is going to work. I'm thinking of quilting a couple of rows at a time and then put it together. It would have to be without the triangle edges. I guess that could also be quilted separately and attached. I'm getting ahead of myself. We haven't even started and I'm worrying about putting it together.

hi, i think 'QAYG' really would help a lot with the actual quilting aspect in general. you won't have to 'wrestle the bear' as it were under the machine, after the the blocks have been put together.
it's been suggested that you cut your batting square slightly larger than your 4.5" 'DJ' block. then you can hand quilt the block to the batting (no backing at this point)
when you're ready, you can sash your blocks together and slip stitch the batting pieces together at the back to keep all the batting flat. eventually when all of your blocks are done you add your backing, and at this point you only need to 'SITD' down the sashing's.
i put a link a few posts ago, to 'lacelady's' 'QAYG' tutorial that she did in the previous DJ sew along last year.
take a look, it's very simple.
