Dear Jane Stickle 2d Cyber Block Party - January 2012
#251
I have now subscribed to the thread and pulled the book, fabric, completed blocks out of hibernation. I set this aside 2.5 years ago when my youngest was born and have not done any blocks since. I'm doing mine kinda colorwash with Robin Pandolf fabrics. At last count I have 20 blocks, 2 kites, and 4 tris done. I also pulled out the journal I started. Just a composition book in which I wrote when I completed blocks and anecdotes about the family. So precious to reread things from 4 years ago. By the time I have this quilt completed this journal will provide snapshots of my life. Right now I am handpiecing a pickled clamshell top and should be close to completing it by the time this kickoffs in January.

Would like to join. Have the book but was disappointed it had no instructions. Does the software have instructions?

NDQuilts, Robyn Pandolph isn't a designer I'm familiar with, so I Googled her and I love love her fabrics. The DJ I'm planning is going to be soft colors, too -- pinks and greens, etc. -- kind of shabby chic, I hope. I'm making one now with Civil War fabrics and I'm ready to start another one. What color background fabric are you using? Cream or white?

ETA. The software was a huge time saver because I do not have to redraft the blocks from the book. I will use any method that will do the job but lean toward handpiecing. So I print the block outline onto freezer paper, mark it up and cut it apart for my templates.

@Gayle Smith: the software has lessons and you can print templates of all blocks, for a lot of blocks you can print foundations too but there are no detailed instructions. When you google 'that quilt' you find instructions for all blocks with pictures. It's a great help!

My background is a Maywood white on white. I bougth a bolt (my lQS gave me a discount and added it to her order). What I do not use on the front will be my backing. I am picky and knowing this was a long term project I did not want to run short then find the background was out of print.

I love this QB!!! so many fellow quilters have answers YAY = I dont think there are any unanswered ones out there??? Robyn Pandolph fabric was used in "Amelia's Rose Garden" - by Verna Mosquera of 'the Vintage Sppol' - I have to put the top together after I finish embellishing the blocks just a little more with embroidery. A luscious appliqued quilt that our local LQS offered a couple of yrs back [and is a UFO taking a back seat to my AOTH - affairs of the heart] ...one day - I dont know what to do with myself without UFOs

I'm using brights that I have in my stash, some batik, some not. Would it look funny if I used various backgrounds in white tone on tones? I don't know if this is something I'm going to finish (hope I will!) so hate to invest in so much background fabric. Opinions!
