I posted a question in the pictures section after seeing all the beautiful blocks that were there. Muriel was kind enough to answer me by PM but suggested I re-post it here as it may help some other "scrappy-challenged" quilters.

I have never been able to scrappy (too anal); I like to co-ordinate colors. Is there a common bond in the many blocks such as the same background in each one? Can I use different types of fabric such as Civil War prints, calicoes, etc. in the same block? Will sashing bring all these together? Muriel has given me good suggestions about making sure about light, medium, and dark. I don't have a large stash but I have sorted out my fabrics into piles (all over the sewing room).

Thanks to all of you for all the suggestions so far. Hope to get some more cause this scrappy thing is driving me nuts!!

JanRN, I'm a total newbie, so I can't really tell you much, but I have found that looking at all the blocks on the yahoo group has given me a better understanding.

Looking at 50 different versions of "Attic Windows" has given me tons of ideas!

HONCHY Thank you , thank you , thank you, I am on block 20 but going to start all over and use your rotary cutting instructions, how great and how easy that is going to make it for us rotary cutters. what a gal thank you again. I struggle with that and maybe following your instructions .it will finally sink in how to get them right. The author should hire you to include your instructions on the cd for her new book, I would gladly pay extra for instructions like that.
