Default The FWS 30's Quiltalong Week 20 Block #39 Grandma & Block #20 Grandmother

Vacation Time is over Ladies and it's time to get going on these blocks again. I, myself included I do have one of them done..no talk about Laurie's new book, we have to concentrate on this one first...

Here's my Grandmother..I guess I didn't press or trim the ends. oh well. The scanner picks up all the imperfections...

Good job, Honchey. Love your colors together.

Almost have the mincemeat mix together. Then process it in the pressure cooker.

Here is my Grandmother block. Oh, you can see the spray starch in the picture.

Also I made a second one-- I added a handle for the basket to see how that would look. I made 4 of those handle basket blocks to add to a blue/white quilt I've got started. I'll be setting them on point.

Givio, love how you have your bouquet in your basket for Grandmother. And the other quilt with a blue basket set on point is going to be a wonderful quilt. Glad to hear Grandma was fun to make...Thursday or Friday I will make my blocks. Processing the mincemeat this afternoon as soon as DH clears off his flat bread mess from the stove. We 'kids' love to play in the kitchen. . . LOL!

Great blocks, ladies. I also thought the basket needed a handle but I don't applique so didn't add one. It was good to have the break. At this point in a large project I start to question my selections. Now I'm ready to rock and roll again. Here are mine but the pics aren't great. MrJan got a new camera and hasn't figured out all the settings yet.

Jan, I just added a seam around the outside top two sides of the big triangle, then cut it down the middle, then cut a slice on the diagonal starting 1/4" in from the outside tip of the basket on both sides. Then I cut a 1" strip for the handle and sewed it into the split new triangles to piece them back together again. Then sewed the new triangles back into the size of the original big triangle -- and so there it was! I didn't applique it, you'll see the seams if you look closely at the picture. What a lovely selection of fabric for yours! Looks like autumn.

Thanks, Givio, that makes sense and now that I looked closely I see the seam. I'll remember that the next time I do a basket block.

One done: Grandma. Finish the other one later.:Her name was 'Holly" in early 1900s. She followed her heart, her faith and journeyed west to join her husband to be...today over 95 kinfolk live in her area, remembering her with love and affection. She created her own dynasty and lived a good life.
