If there are Y seams I think we can figure out a way to avoid them ..maybe using EQ7 or NOT :D

w4me, I'm amazed at all the colors you have... I like the dark owl with the light background row 3 #3, and am drawn to the orange row 2 #6. Well done!

I think the 6 inch block yields better to both 4P and 9P blocks, than the 8" block. I feel that's what made the PC harder and more PP friendly.

Have to go...all take care now.

Morning everyone. Sneaking a little time at work here.
-Thanks Honchey. I love the sage, too. I wish I could get more of it for future projects. Actually, the ghosts are witch hats and that is one of the fabrics that I made when I couldn't find many Halloween batiks for the projects.
I don't know if I will do the next one. If I do it will NOT be a Halloween version. :)
-Thank you QuiltingNinaSue.
-Thanks dublb. I like how it is bright and cheerful yet the sage tones it down, too.
-janRN - I love the friendship star as well. Simple and yet effective. End of the year you will be retired. Congratulations.
-Thanks oksewglad. It was tough to find Halloween batiks at the beginning which is why I started to make my own fabric. Then suddenly the floodgates seemed to open and they were everywhere. At the moment I don't have a favourite but I really like my raven fabrics. Who am I kidding? I love all the Halloween batiks. Good thing, too, as there will be a lot of leftovers for the stash when this quilt is done. :)
I hadn't thought of 6" being better for paper piecing. Mind you, I am still doing these blocks with regular piecing. None have been paper pieced so far.

And that's it for me. Take care everyone. Try to stay warm and dry and safe.

Hello all! Niece's quilt is almost done...just need to sew down the binding and that will be done by machine this afternoon. Have "grandkid" pictures this morning (my sisters are all in town with their families). I will get a picture posted in the next day or so.

I am planning to make the new FW quilt. Haven't even thought about colors/fabrics yet....May is a perfect time for starting though since that gives me time to make DD's graduation quilt (not started, just found out she was graduating a year early less than a month ago).

W4M--some fun new blocks. Keep plugging ahead and one day you will have a whole quilt. :)

QNS--praying for your health

Everyone--have a great week!

Dumb question of the year here (remember, I'm a senior blonde!): we have to have Thanksgiving dinner around noon, my DIL & DGS both have to work at 4. My stove has the auto start time. If I put the turkey in the oven the night before and set the auto timer won't the turkey spoil? Doesn't it have to be refrigerated? Would we all get food poisoning? Or should I just plan to get up early and bake it the regular way? I don't understand how you can do auto start baking of stuff without it going bad. Or am I nuts? (Don't answer that one LOL!)

QuiltingNinaSue 11-25-2014 12:09 PM

No, JanRN, you are not nuts, its just that season of Turkey that we all go off our rockers. Just enjoy it by the
seconds and minutes with family and friends.

In answer to your question, www.foodnetwork.com/Trisha has a recipe you put your turkey in before going to bed...its on a rack and water is underneath with veggies. You set your oven on 500 degrees for ONE hour, then turn it off without opening up the oven door. . . until the next morning. Turkey is all done, go on with all the sides and stuffing. No basting necessary, its juicy and tender. No stress.

Love Carrie's carrot dish she gave us last year. Excellent dish. Good luck everyone with your Turkey Day. and all that work, and enjoy all the leftovers.

Honchey 11-25-2014 01:59 PM

I don't care what they say on TV...I would not leave a turkey in the oven that way for an hour and expect the turkey to have an internal temp of 165* and I wouldn't even think of leaving it in the oven on auto cook for a couple of hours...The cooks where I used to work would set the ovens at 325* and cook them overnight..but I'm talking about 30 -45 lb turkeys... if you need the bird early get up around 5 a.m. butter the breast under the skin, tent the bird and cover the legs with foil, set the temp at 325* go back to bed for another couple of hours then turn it up to 375* when you get up... remove the foil the last 1/2 to brown. check the birds temp. That's what I would do... If you're not stuffing the bird, I would have it in the oven by 7 a.m. it should be ready in time for your guests...What size bird are you cooking?? I'm cooking a 14 lb bird and will have it in the oven by 8 and we'll be eating by 1..

janRN 11-25-2014 02:31 PM

Thank you! I have about a 12-14 pounder and I'm sure if it's in by 8 I can take it out by 12:30; if it's not done, I'll stick it in the microwave. I saw the same cooking show, QNS and I don't trust them. Seems like all the meat they cook is pink and I don't like pink meat LOL. That and they all look too pretty to be cooking!

Anne, are you in NC or NJ? Either way, watch out for the storm they're predicting. It's supposed to miss us-Yay!

Probably won't talk to yinz until after the holiday, so please all--know I am so thankful for your friendship--you are all blessings. Have a happy happy Thanksgiving.
