Anael, Your blocks are extraordinary. Great work and wonderful selection of fabrics. All I can say is WOW!

mirabelle 12-14-2013 12:49 PM

NinaSue any waffles left, my dear late grandmother used to make us waffles for breakfast on special occasions. Keep those men working:D

Anael 12-14-2013 12:53 PM

Thank you Blue Bell. It's good you can only see them from a distance :D :D They're not so extraordinary IMHO. On some I did a very bad job

Beautiful start on Sylvia, Anael. Love the colors you used and the background.

Little more snow today, it lightly dusted the cars out front. Rice pudding is made, Anne, and its delicious. Cinnamon rolls and bread are baking in the oven. I disturbed the men working to get into the deep freeze to pull out some corn on the cob...they ate every ear at lunch along with venison steak and gravy with baked potato. For some reason I am too tired to go into the quilt room.

Hope QuiltE is OK...come tell us what you have been up too, please???? and show us pictures of your beautiful work.

QNS, do you make your rice pudding in the crockpot too? Thanks for your compliments on my Sylvia.
I guess you've been very busy so I can understand why you're too tired to go into the quilt room!

QuiltE is ok, I'll copy and paste a few lines from her email, this explains why she was MIA

Mon … hot water heater on the fritz; called 8:20pm for service to prevent a major flood!
Tues … 8-12noon replacement service guys didn’t come til mid aftn; waiting for the doorbell to ring, I would not be near the computer
Wed … thought all was good, and I would catch up with the world; surprise! strange things happening with my computer; called techie and delivered
Wed/Thurs … that dreaded thing called WORK!
Thurs … picked up computer; beasties aka “rogue applications” in techie talk were poofed!
Thurs/Fri … company for an early Christmas …. Yes, I cooked a full meal deal! Which delights me as now I have leftovers!!!

TA DA!! I did it--got the block made with the bleeping y-seams. This is a strange little block, I wouldn't paper piece it the next time. Only a few sections are pp, the rest were templates anyway. Thanks for all your help--I removed the paper & marked the seam line. I think this one was a little easier because of the 7:00 looking angle instead of 90* angle. Not perfect, it's about 1/4" too small.

JanRN, if anyone looks that close, they are tooo close! Only one in fifty will notice it...and maybe not then, maybe one on 12,000.

Keeping the men busy and progress is made... I made venison steak with gravy and baked potato at noon, and finished the rice pudding, bread and cinnamon rolls this afternoon; come by and grab one quick...they are not going to last They will be in the virtual RV for a limited time only. Yes, Anael, I cooked my rice pudding in the crock pot. Thank you for updating us on QuiltE. Mashed potato waffles with buttermilk in the morning again with eggs whipped and cooked in the microwave, pork links in the toaster oven and homemade maple syrup again. There was a bit of syrup leftover this morning and it went on top of the cinnamon rolls..bread and rolls melted in your mouth.

Bf got up early and did the dishes dirty yesterday, and wore herself out. So I just finished off the dirty dishes tonight, so she will not wear herself out tomorrow morning.

Oh what a delightful ooey gooey cinnamon roll, QNS! Thanks for sharing.

DH brought mail in late--my December block from Jan arrived and it is another star struck beauty. Hope to get a pic tomorrow. Thanks. Your almost "y" seam block looks great. Worth all the hassle.

Thanks for the update on QE--not a star studded week for her. Things can only look up!
Anael I think I could be persuaded to do a Sylvia quilt, but will not start it until the other two are done. Yours has such a good start.

Oh so much to be done and never enough time.--must work on bill paying tomorrow. DIL and GS were at a BB tournament so for today I had 4 little ones around--we had meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy and farm fresh corn for dinner. Helps ward off the cold....
The morning and afternoon spent making potholders for teachers. Emily and Elise went through their "Nina Sue stash" here sewed three of them--Elise was the real trooper--she stuck around and helped put together 2 more. She likes the folding and pressing part and tickled to see Gram get out the seam ripper. We made the kind that take 6 8" squares with four of them folded in half. Takes more time to cut them out than to sew them. Now to clean up and think about the capes I need to make and get in the mail.

Have a good rest now.

Jan, your block is beautiful! If it doesn't fit into the quilt you can always use very small sashings to make it fit. Jane did that too :)

QNS, thanks for sharing! Looks delicious.

I'm continuing my Sylvia1. 10 rows finished, 7 into the top so 6 more rows of sashing with cornerstones, 4 rows of blocks and I'm done. One of the blocks was 1/2" short so I couldn't use that. Good I already started a second Sylvia so I could use one of those blocks as replacement.

Mirabelle, did you finish the Bargello?

What I learned while doin' this quilt.;
*I don't seem ta be able ta do larger crumbs. I started a bit larger but just kept makein' 'em smaller & smaller.
*As heavy as the crumbs blocks become it doesn't work ta put wider sashin' between the blocks. They were all wavy & I had ta cut 'em down ta the same size o' the asterisk strips.
* No matter how hard ya try, ya will not (even w/a walkin' foot) have consistent quiltin' stitches. The different thickness makes the top go through the machine very unevenly.
*The wrong color quiltin' thread can spoil a quilt. I used a gray but it looked white & ya could see all the uneveness o' the stitches. I frog stitched it & bought some black then top stitched on both sides o' each black strip instead o' in the ditch. (I couldn't find which box my black thread is in.)
