Congrats on more blocks giquilt! As usual they're lovely. You still have no idea how many blocks you've made?
|
Thank you Anael and giquilt for your kind comments. You are really on a roll giquilt with all your blocks ! Your colours are lovely and we will soon see your finished SBS. This thread used to be so busy - it would be great for it to be busy again.
|
You're very welcome Dotty!.
Yes that would be great, there still are a few who didn't finish their Sylvia, at least didn't tell us they finished :) Maybe one day........ |

LOL giquilt, I know that feeling.
When you're over 70 you won't stop! That means you're almost there ;) Yes we skipped around a lot, because I tried to mix easy and harder blocks and for those who work(ed) with FQ's that way you will have the fabrics in all the rows - well, most rows :D The Virtual weekend is coming soon so you'll have some more done! You'll get there. Look at your avatar, you did that one too and the Challenge quilt was way harder than the Sylvia with all those tiny 3" blocks! I think I disagree with your statement about my Avatar and Sylvia. I have found Sylvia to be harder. Yes, there were 3 inch blocks, but no curved piecing or paper piecing. I think I have now been able to get paper piecing accomplished, but curves are still too hard. Will really need to work on that. gi |
Well yes curved piecing is hard. But I love paper piecing so I drew up lots of the 365 Challenge blocks so I could paper piece them.
Did you count your Sylvia blocks yet? |

Still have not counted. I have cut out several while I had my grandkids last week. Today I made 4. I really appreciate the order you picked these blocks, if we had started with some of the harder ones I might have given up. For some reason it will only let me load these 2.

Thank you giquilt!
Your quilt will be very colorful with the dark background and all those bright colors. I love it!! Well done! |

I'm still here also. Did 3 more blocks yesterday. I think it's been about a year since I completed any. Too many other projects going on, but am still going to plug along. Have too many done not to...
|
Looking good, both of you-Giquilt and Aunt Jo!! I have been watching- wanting to get back to mine. Living between two of my boys for the last 5 months, so no room to even open up any quilting projects. I miss it so thanks for the great inspiration! Keep going!!
|
Very weird, I posted today and can't find it. It seems to have disappeared, along with more of my posts :( :(
|
Just checking in. Will get back to Sylvia in November. Kinda miss her.
Gi Aunt Jo your blocks are lovely. I have never put mine on a design wall yet. Hang in there Laurafet, maybe you can find a Sew Day at a local shop or Senior Activity Center. |
I love your blocks Aunt Jo. I did post that before but that post is also gone :( I've been away for a while because I got my second hip replacement in August.
Looking forward to see your blocks giquilt. |
Sooooooooooo ladies :D :D Where are your gorgeous blocks?

AuntJo:
That will be a Beautiful Quilt!!!! |

Well I do have the fabrics put together for the next three I will do, but then again, the new Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt begins Friday... I've actually not been able to get into my studio for a month now. I had just gotten out 3 UFO's to create backings & cut batting to get ready to put on the quilting machine to go to the fire victims in Santa Rosa. We took our anniversary week trek to the coast & then my Mom tripped in Iowa & broke not one, but both her wrists. I had to fly back to Iowa so they could send her home (she lives by herself still). Spent a couple weeks there & had my SIL fly out to fly back to Cali with her while I drove her car, and animals out... Just a bit pre-occupied... But they are still on my wall behind everything else. |
Well sometimes life does get in the way, doesn't it? Wow, both wrists broken, that's really bad!!!! Hopefully she will be ok again soon!
And finishing UFO's is great too, makes you feel so accomplished :) :) Don't worry auntjo, I will still be here next year :D |

YEAHHHHH and not the easiest one! Lovely block auntjo, well done!
|
Lovely block, Auntjo. Love the blue center.
|
Auntjo sorry about your mom. Like your block.
I still have Sylvia packaged up. I have one more UFO on the design wall which I want to finish the top 1st. So Sylvia will have to wait until January. See you then! Merry Christmas |

to all of you :) |
My Sylvia quilt top has been finished over a year, but I can't decide how to quilt it. I want to hand quilt it. Maybe an all over pattern, but all those seams would make it hard to hand quilt. Since the blocks are so small, quilting the way it's made would be short seams that I don't think would look good--especially on the back. Cross hatching? Maybe, but that would mean hand quilting through all the seams on the tiny blocks. I would like to quilt something in the sashing, but they are 1 inch wide. My frame is empty and would love for this quilt top to be the next one completed.
Please can anyone help? Has anyone hand quilted Sylvia or any quilt top with small blocks? |
I'm sorry Redtop, I can't help you there. I wanted to hand quilt mine too but decided not to because of the same reasons. All the seams make it too hard for me to hand quilt so I will do machine FMQing. I haven't decided yet on the design. Maybe an all over or each block different.....so it's still waiting in the cupboard.
Good luck with yours! |
I had my SBS Long arm Quilted by a friend and she did each block " individually - stitch in the ditch " - it turned out nicely and she did "feathers " in the borders
|
SID would be great with puffy batting. Or 2 layers? Will have to do a practice piece to see how that's working.
|
Anael, thanks to your starting this group my Sylvia is now finished except for borders. Hope to get those on in 2018.
|
Wow, congrats Sue!!!!! Well done!!! Picture please (without borders is ok with me) :) :)
|
I still have all my blocks done and packaged. Waiting for my design wall to be cleared. Finishing a quilt for great niece’s graduation hopefully in Feb. then Sylvia is next. I keep posting these updates to make myself stay in loop. Gi

:D Good to hear from you giquilt!

Hello... This BOW started a few years ago and it still appears peeps are still working on their blocks. I purchased my book and waiting for it to arrive but was wondering if I could start my journey with you all. I'll start once I get my book and will likely start at beginning in order. Is that recommended. Or is there a better way to approach this project?
|
Welcome Teen! Glad you found us. Sure you can still start your journey, we're still here :) It's up to you how you want to approach the quilt. You can follow the book or you can follow the order in which we did the blocks here. We started with the easier ones.
I would love to see your blocks!!! |
Thank you, so much, Anael! Very excited to receive my book tomorrow. I'll start making blocks and be sure to share. So fun...
|
You're very welcome. Please do share your blocks, we (I know the other bridals do too :D ) love to see them and cheer you on!
|
Welcome Teen! Don't worry- you're not alone! Some of us have had life get in the way, so we are STILL working on blocks. Can't wait to see yours!
|
It's not all that bad, we started 4 years ago and when life gets in the way, 4 years isn't a long time ;)
|
I saw that this book is available for Kindle - those that have it, do you think that would work? I know there are some applique blocks so that would take some doing, but if most are pieced with given measuerments, I figure I can make it work.
Also - how many applique blocks are there? I don't care for applique and figured I mightd swap those ones out for something I did like. |
I would have to count them but there aren't many appliqué blocks, just a few. I'm not sure if a kindle would work. Most measurements are given, some blocks or pieces need to be printed from the book. You could substitute those blocks too though, it's your quilt ;)
|
I received my book and I'm flipping through it. I decided to use a fabric that I have a bolt of for main fabric for all blocks. It is blue/white/teal. Background fabric will be white tone on tone... Additional colors and variety fabric will be black, white on black, green, yellow, teal, blues... I think that will look pretty and a lot of this fabric is on the bolt. So I'll start simple and post pictures of the blocks as I go. 140 to go...hahaha...
Ok...Cover me.....I'm going in.... |
