Apparently Sylvia has called my name. I was not even thinking about working on her in 2017. Did not make my list of UFOs. No idea how long this will last. Just finished week 25 from Anael's list. Any one want to join in? The next two blocks on her list are G7 & K10
Hi Anael and everyone,
At last I am able to post a photo of my finished Sylvia Hi Ladies, I have just got home from our quilt group's exhibition today and am absolutely thrilled to tell you I won first prize in the Visitors Choice. This meant so much to me - I am over the moon this evening !! |
YEAHHHHHH Dotty!!!!! Congrats!! Well deserved! You did an outstanding job!
|
Not sure I ever commented on this post, but it is worth commenting again. Beautiful!!!
This also gives me the idea to start putting in rows. I have A, B & C done. gi

Here is picture of my blocks. They are connected in long rows but the long rows are not sewn together yet. They look wonky because they are laid out on the floor in the sewing room. No design wall yet. :) I love the way the bright colors pop on this quilt. I made most of the blocks using fabric from my stash. I think I bought only the background fabric. I had on every light possible in the room but it still looks shady. LOL

Dotty, did I miss something or do you have the pic posted somewhere else? I don't see a link or a pic. Can't wait to see it. Congratulations on completion!!-Never mind- I found it. Love it more now than the first time I saw it!!!

With the Virtual Weekend here on the board, I am doing a few Sylvia blocks as a break from Quilting borders.
Here are three E7 Ribboned Star, E6 Jack in the Pulpit, I think was an M. Don't remember name. It was very hard for me. Had to redo a couple times. I also went back and made a paper list of weeks and blocks Anael gave use originally. I had put in my Calendar, but that is lost. It is kinda nice to be marking them off. |
Lovely blocks giquilt and great cutting :) :) The third one is a hard one to make and you did very well! Isn't it great to see the pile of blocks growing and also the markings on the list? I loved it!

Blocks H7 Hunters Star & L5 Pineapple. Think I have some motivation left over from the 365 challenge as I want to make a block a day.
|
The Hunter Star is eye catching with those colours and stripes! I love the Pineapple too though :) Nice fussy cutting !!

These are the blocks from Week 35. New York Beauty & Old Maid's puzzle. This puts me 1/2 way through. I hope to keep working on the blocks. I just realize when I looked at the posted pic of Old Maid's puzzle that the block is wrong. Will go back and fix.
|
Sometimes you only notice you did something wrong when you look at the picture :) I love the blocks, the Old Maid's puzzle too with the mistake!! Design element :)
Congrats on being half way through!! |
Gorgeous blocks. Glad to see someone besides me is still plugging away on these. I don't think I've put one together for several months, but the ones done are still on my design wall under about 3 other projects in the works. I just haven't spent much time in my studio since my Mom's open heart surgery in October, and when I do, it's piecing. Finally did a quilt for a friend on my long arm Thursday which felt so good to run thru. Hadn't turned the machine on for at least 3 months... Great to see your progress.
|
Welcome back auntjo! How is your Mom doing?
|
Yeah, Aunt jo glad you are working too. I have been working on a couple finishes. Precut two more blocks today.
|
Hi again - further to my last reply in this thread, the exhibition (in which I won the visitor's choice award) has been mentioned in the March edition of a magazine called British Patchwork and Quilting. I was absolutely thrilled to discover a small picture of my SBS and a report about my quilt in it !!! I was also pleased to read my quilt group was likened to a miniature version of a much larger British exhibition - it cannot get any better than that and I can't wait to tell our group at our next meeting.

Congratulations Dotty on all your awards and Magazine siteings. I finally got around to doing 6 more blocks. The Red/gold/blue block has been done couple weeks, Boston Stones?. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul took a long time because I had to handpiece. Jacob's Ladder and Road to OK I think this gets me thru week 38. Plugging along is my song!

Latest two blocks. Cutting blocks to sew on Virtual weekend end of June. Hope someone else joins me.
|
More eye candy, thanks giquilt!! I love the bright colours and your background fabric. How many blocks did you do?
There are more ladies who didn't finish their Sylvia yet, maybe one or two will join you ;) |
I actually have never counted my blocks. Just made a paper list of your weeks. So when I think I'm through I might not be if I missed some. Each completed row is in a bag (A,B,C,....etc) and I think I have all 10 completed thru F. But as we have skipped around so much I don't know. At this point afraid to count might make me stop doing them. Thanks Aneal for still supporting those of us trying to finish.
|
LOL giquilt, I know that feeling.
When you're over 70 you won't stop! That means you're almost there ;) Yes we skipped around a lot, because I tried to mix easy and harder blocks and for those who work(ed) with FQ's that way you will have the fabrics in all the rows - well, most rows :D The Virtual weekend is coming soon so you'll have some more done! You'll get there. Look at your avatar, you did that one too and the Challenge quilt was way harder than the Sylvia with all those tiny 3" blocks! |

Anael, you are the best leader keeping us encouraged even though you have long since finished!!!!!!!
The 9 Sylvia blocks I completed in the last 5 days. Also worked on a few other projects during the Virtual Weekend sponsored by the this Q board. If I have a few more of these weekends might get 're done. I cut 7 blocks ahead and had them in baggies ready to sew. May try this again too. I will say these were some of the hardest blocks I've done. Especially the ones with curved pieces. I was actually excited to see an instruction with the word "Y-seam." Good luck to others still plugging away. |
Awww thank you giquilt!!
You did so well with the curved piecing (and the other piecing too hahahaha)!! Did you ever think you would be excited to do Y-seams? :D :D :D Some blocks are nearly impossible to do, like the Peter/Paul one, I really hated that block. Maybe it's time for a group photo :D Would love to see all blocks together! |
Giquilt, I went back and read a bit, in January you passed the half-way mark. So I guess you will have well over 100 blocks by now! Not too bad, isn't it?
